Prairie Central defended its No. 1 ranking in spite of Clifton Central's two home runs as the Hawks notched a 12-6 semifinal victory in the Class 2A Watseka Regional. Luke Bachtold (4-4) worked four innings to gain the win. Marcus Bachtold drove in four runs for Prairie Central (14-11) while Brad Moody added three RBI.
Iroquois West, Pool roll: Kyle Pool struck out 14 as top-seeded Iroquois West blanked No. 4 Milford, 5-0, to advance to the Cissna Park Regional championship on Saturday. Pool allowed five hits in going the distance. Kylen Rushbrook and Clark Fink combined for four of the Raiders' seven hits. Rushbrook also scored twice and drove in a run.
EPG falls: El Paso-Gridley (15-9) managed to score three runs in the fourth inning but top-seeded Illinois Valley Central claimed the 7-3 semifinal decision of the Class 2A Eureka Regional. Dustin Stoller had three hits for the Titans and Matt Young added two hits for two RBI. Dylan Steffen (4-2) suffered the loss.
Heyworth bows out: No. 1 seed Argenta-Oreana ended No 5. Heyworth's season by handing the Hornets a 4-1 loss in the semifinals of the Class 1A Argenta Regional. Ben Shepherd had two hits for Heyworth (8-18) while Miles Froese (6-4) scattered six hits and struck out five in the loss.
Dwight makes finals: Alec Frazier (6-5) tossed a three-hitter, striking out eight with one walk as top-seeded Dwight advances to the Saturday's championship game of the Class 1A Gardner Regional with a 4-0 win over No. 4 Illinois Lutheran. Ben Trainor had two hits and two RBI for Dwight (16-14) which faces the winner of today's semifinal between Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell and Gardner-South Wilmington. Saturday.
Clinton eliminated: Clinton's season ended with a 6-1 lClass 2A Clinton Regional semifinal loss at the hands of top-seeded St. Teresa. Josh Merrick (1-5) took the loss for Clinton (11-14).
Dee-Mack moves on: Grant Anderson (5-0) struckout five and scattered three hits over seven innings to lead top-seeded Deer Creek-Mackinaw to a 6-2 semifinal win over No. 5 seed Ridgeview in the Gibson City Class 1ARegional. Steve Maurer, Zack Hild, and Dalton Neuman each supplied multiple hits for the Chiefs (18-10).
