DANVILLE -- Danville's Zach Thomas cracked a solo homer with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning to send Normal Community West to a 2-1 Big 12 Conference loss at Danville.
Danville (18-8, 7-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning which held up until Adam McGinnis doubled home West's only run in the top of the sixth. Wes Sery added two hits for the Wildcats.
Matthew James (5-1) was the hard-luck loser for Normal West (22-6, 7-2). The sophomore right-hander gave up five hits over six innings, striking out 10 with only one walk.
"James deserved a better fate, he pitched a very good game," said Normal West coach Chris Hawkins. "Our offense approach was fine, we just came up a hit short."
Cody Burton scattered seven hits and struck out four in the complete game win.
