DECATUR — University High School's basketball team outscored Decatur Eisenhower 24-6 in the third quarter Tuesday night and went on to a 66-43 Central State Eight Conference victory over the Panthers.
Nate Torres had 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for U High, which improved to 19-7 overall and 12-3 in the league.
The Pioneers trailed 25-23 at the half before their big third quarter.
"It took us a while to get going," U High coach Andrew McDowell said. "We didn't come out with good enough energy the first quarter.
"We kind of got punched in the mouth. We responded in the third quarter and started attacking the basket. We were 10 of 11 shooting in that quarter. We started going to the basket and trying to get some buckets inside. We did a good job with that. We're playing good basketball. The kids really believe in themselves and are playing with a lot of confidence."
