Maddie Merritt scored 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Tri-Valley High School girl's basketball team to a 62-61 overtime Heart of Illinois Conference win over Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland on Monday night at Flanagan.

FCW led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter, but after the game was tied 25-25 at the half, the Falcons faced a five point deficit going into the fourth period.

A pair of 3-point baskets by Haley Hoekstra in the fourth helped FCW to even the score at 53-53 at the end of regulation.

Hoestra and Emily Farris each scored 17 points in the game for FCW while Rachael Quaritsch added 11.

Lauren Wombles scored 13 points for Tri-Valley (15-2, 6-0) and Chloe Nagle chipped in 11 points and seven assists. 


University High 58, Eureka 28: Bailey Larsen netted 20 points as the Pioneers had no trouble dispatching host Eureka in a Corn Belt Conference contest. U High (14-1, 6-0) jumped out to a 14-4 first quarter lead and upped the margin to 29-10 at the half.

Eureka (11-5, 4-2) got six points from Hayley Coffman.

Central Catholic 70, Olympia 19: The Saints took a 24-9 first quarter lead and then held the Spartans scoreless in the second and third quarters en route to a Corn Belt Conference win at Cvengros Gym. Bailey Stevens and Lexi Davis each scored 12 points to pace Central (12-6, 4-4), which also received 11 points from sophomore forward Maddie Malinowski.

Kendra Peifer scored 10 points for Olympia and Kayla Miller added eight.

Heart of Illinois

Lexington 61, Blue Ridge 33: Gabby Freed scored 11 of her game-high 20 points in the second quarter as host Lexington rolled to an HOIC win over Blue Ridge. Alexis Bury added 11 points for the Minutemen who got scoring from 11 players.

Josie Grammer had 20 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Blue Ridge.

El Paso-Gridley 44, GCMS 33: Aubrey Staton scored 19 points and El Paso-Gridley (6-14, 3-4) led wire-to-wire in an HOIC win over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley at El Paso.

GCMS (5-12) got 11 points and five rebounds from Amber Witteman.

Heyworth 57, Ridgeview 43: Heyworth, led by Stephanie Brown's 13 points, defeated Ridgeview at Colfax. Seagan Snow led the Hornets (8-10, 2-6 HOIC) with eight rebounds while adding seven points.

Ridgeview's Jordyn Talley posted game-highs of 17 points and nine rebounds.

Corn Belt

Prairie Central 52, Pontiac 34: Kiana Coomber was 6-of-9 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and scored 18 points in the game to lead the Hawks to the win at Fairbury. Cassie Somers added 13 points for Prairie Central. Errin Hodges had eight points for the Indians.


Tri-Point 52, Illinois Lutheran 33: Kayleigh Miller was 7-of-10 from the free throw line and scored 20 points to lead the Chargers to a River Valley Conference win at Cullom. Miller also had five steals for Tri-Point (6-9, 4-2) with Ashton Melton adding 12 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. Sophomore guard Jacki Weller had 12 points and five steals.

Cissna Park 63, Clifton Central 19: Addison Stoller scored 21 points leading host Cissna Park over Clifton Central. Lexi Knake added 18 points in the Timberwolves (15-2) victory with Lyndsey Neukomm contributing 11 including three 3-pointers.

Dwight 52, St. Anne 29: Rachel Dawson registered 17 points and six rebounds as host Dwight (3-7) cruised to a nonconference win. Daly Galloway chipped in 10 points for the Trojans who led 28-13 at the half.
