University High School’s girls basketball team has climbed to No. 3 in Class 3A in the Associated Press state rankings released Tuesday.

The Pioneers (13-1), large school bracket champions in the State Farm Holiday Classic, earned 64 points in voting by a statewide panel of sportswriters to trail only Montini (120) and Washington (80).

Also earning a spot in the girls rankings was No. 8 Cissna Park (12-2) in Class 1A. Area teams receiving votes but not making the top 10 were Tremont in 2A and Iroquois West in 1A.

On the boys side, Normal Community (11-0) moved up one spot to No. 6 in Class 4A after winning the State Farm Holiday Classic large school bracket title.

Lincoln (12-2) came in at No. 7 in Class 3A, down two spots from the season’s first poll, while Central Catholic (9-4) was ranked No. 9 in Class 2A. Dwight (11-2) dropped from No. 1 to No. 5 in Class 1A, while Ridgeview (12-1) was ranked No. 7.

Area teams receiving votes were Fieldcrest and Tremont, both in 2A.
