OTTAWA — Austin Zobrist buried a 3-point shot with 15 seconds to play and a Josh Robinson steal repelled an Ottawa comeback attempt as Normal West High School's basketball team pulled out a 42-40 nonconference win on Saturday night.
Zobrist's game-winning 3-pointer was one of five from beyond the arc for the West senior who had a game-high 17 points. He also had a 3-pointer at the buzzer to bring the Wildcats to within four points at intermission.
"We got down by 11 in the first half and that was huge, to cut the deficit like that at halftime," said West coach Brian Cupples.
The momentum carried into the third quarter with West taking the lead heading into the final period.
Richard Simpkins added 11 points for West, which improved to 13-10 for the season.
In addition to his key steal late in the game, Robinson had 10 assists to go along with seven points.
Junior Kyler Stork helped to hold Ottawa at bay with five blocks. Tim O'Brien paced the Wildcats on the boards with seven rebounds.
