Here is your Saturday Prep Report: Three wrestling teams tie for Illini Prairie Conference title

The high school wrestling teams of Prairie Central, Pontiac and Tolono Unity each went 7-1 to tie for first in the Illini Prairie Conference Meet at Pontiac on Saturday.

Monticello was fourth (5-3) followed by St. Joseph-Ogden (4-4), IVC (3-5), Olympia (2-7), Rantoul (1-8) and St. Thomas More (0-9).

Among the matches of note was Pontiac's 37-35 win over Prairie Central in the opening round. Pontiac fell to Unity in round seven, 69-12. Prairie Central topped Unity in the final round, 41-35.

BHS 5th at New Lenox: Bloomington, led by 113-pound champion Chad Bellis, scored 145.5 points to place fifth in the 19-team Illini Classic at New Lenox where Minooka won with 198.

Placing second for BHS was Carson Nishida (106). BHS third placers were Carson Oliger (120), Jacob Barger (126) and Jon Brown (220).

LeRoy 3rd at Urbana: LeRoy scored 158 points to place third in the 12-team Urbana Invitational where University High was 10th (51.5).

Area champions included LeRoy's Josh Sexton (106), Ty Baxter (160) and Grant Sant Amour (170) and U High's Zach Gross (120).

Other LeRoy placers were Ethan Matlock (2nd at 126), Owen Gulley (2nd at 138) and Darek Wiggins (3rd at 195).

Normal West 4th at Mahomet: Normal West scored 361 points to place fourth in the Marty Williams Invitational at Mahomet where Lincoln was 12th (172.5). Naperville Central won with 473.5.

Placing for the Wildcats were Matt Bicknell (2nd at 106), Froylan Racey (3rd at 113) and Skyler Hufeld (3rd at 285). Lincoln placers were Trevor Bree (2nd at 132) and Austin O'Donoghue (2nd at 145).

Eureka 6th at Kewanee: Eureka scored 90 points to place sixth in the 10-team Brockman Invitational at Kewanee.

The Hornets were led by 106-pound champion Brayden Peiffer and 220-pound champion Joel Baer. Teammate Drew Cook was second (138).

NCHS 12th at Geneseo: Normal Community scored 61 points to finish 12th in the 15-team Geneseo Invitational. Ethan Johnson led the Ironmen by placing second at 285.

SWIMMING

West's Ahrens sets record: Jackson Ahrens clocked a pool record of 47.54 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle as Normal West won a triangular at Danville. The old record of 48.13 was set by Champaign Central's Tyler McGill, who competed in the 2012 Olympics.

U High 10th at Winnetka: University High scored 55 points to finish 10th in the 16-team Trevian Relays at Winnetka. Camden Swigart led the Pioneers with a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.07.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

University High 63, Springfield Southeast 36: Grace Ward scored 16 points, Chelsie Price 12 and Logan Murray 10 for University High (16-7, 7-5) in a win over visiting Springfield Southeast (3-15, 3-6). Murray also handed out five assists while Emma Harding grabbed eight rebounds.

Normal Community 50, Urbana 34: Madison Feeney sank 5 of 7 3-point attempts en route to a career-high 19 points for Normal Community (11-11, 6-0) in a win at Urbana. Karleigh Creasey chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Iron, who received 12 rebounds from Ivie Juarez.

Illini Bluffs 44, Central Catholic 34: Ella Larson contributed 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals for Central Catholic in a nonconference loss at Illinois Central College in East Peoria. The Saints (14-8) fell behind 21-15 at halftime against Illini Bluffs (18-5) and couldn't get the lead in the second half.

Roanoke-Benson 43, Ottawa Marquette 25: Bailey Leman's 12 points led No. 5 seed Roanoke-Benson to a Tri-County Conference Tournament victory over No. 4 seed Ottawa Marquette at Seneca. The Rockets will play top-seeded Seneca at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Roanoke-Benson 67, Princeville 42: No. 1-state ranked Roanoke-Benson ran its record to 18-0 win a victory at Princeville (15-2). Trent Weldon and Jack Weber had 15 points apiece for the Rockets. Weldon grabbed eight rebounds and Weber six.

Dwight 53, Woodland 43: Playing at the United Center in Chicago, Dwight received 18 points from Lane Thompson and 12 from Brandon Ceyler in a win over Woodland. Sean Bundy scored 14 points and Christian Miller 10 for the Warriors.
