HIGHLAND — The Normal West High School basketball team overwhelmed Edwardsville, 49-27, in the Highland Shootout on Saturday.

The Wildcats (5-10) received eight assists and six points from Shea Cupples, who earned the shootout's MVP of the game award. Carson Camp added 12 points and Cole Hernandez 10.

Edwardsville (3-11) was paced by Nic Hemken's eight points. The Tigers trailed at halftime, 25-10.

"The thing we did that we didn't do last night (in a loss to Champaign Central) was we really found their shooters," said Normal West coach Brian Cupples. "We rebounded.

"The beginning of the game was huge. We made them shoot contested shots and we hit shots, too."

Camp scored eight points in the first quarter.

"He had a couple of wide open 3s that he knocked down," Cupples said. "His activity was really good."
