The Prairie Central High School wrestling team scored 173.5 points to win the 10-team Hawk Classic at Fairbury on Saturday.

El Paso-Gridley was second (141.5) and Dwight third (131).

The Hawks were led by champions Brandon Hoselton (195), Christian Fever (132), Corbin Moser (145), Logan Deacetis (160), Jake Woodrey (182) and Josh Woodrey (220).

Other area winners were EPG's Monte Gregory (113) and Dwight's Cade Enderson (152).

BHS 4th at Sycamore: Bloomington, led by third placers Chad Bellis (106) and Jon Brown (182), scored 421.5 points to finish fourth in the 24-team Sycamore Invitational, which was won by Downers Grove South (512).

Bellis (23-9) won his third-place match against Yorkville's Derek Buts, 9-1, while Brown topped LaGrange Park Nazareth's Robert Gurley by medical forfeit.

NCHS 2nd at Morton: Led by champions Carter Owen (132) and Joshua Delgadillo (138), Normal Community scored 195 points to finish second in the 12-team Bob and Liz Scharr Invitational at Morton where Joliet West won with 219.5. Deer Creek-Mackinaw was eighth (64.5) and Streator 11th (21).

The area's five runners-up included Abel Ninan (106), Gabriel Rivera (152), Jadon Robinson (182) and Kenneth Hudson of NCHS and Keyth Frisby (170) of Deer Creek-Mackinaw.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Cornerstone 60, Lexington 33: Senior forward Joe Kaufman netted 28 points and Cassidy Jean added 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Cyclones (10-1) to a nonconference win at Lexington. Cornerstone's Zach Wolfe contributed nine points, 13 boards and six assists. Andrew Olson scored 11 points for Lexington.

Tri-Valley 63, Tolono Unity 38: John Symanski's 24 points paced Tri-Valley to victory over visiting Tolono Unity (9-7). The Rockets, who trailed 29-18 at intermission, received 14 points from Jared Routh and 11 from Brady Porter.

Kewanee Wethersfield 58, Tremont 56: Coltin Quagliano's 10-foot leaner at the buzzer made Kewanee Wethersfield a winner over Tremont in the Sandburg Shootout at Galesburg.

Titus Thompson led the Turks with 24 points while Tim Rice added 10. Quagliano paced the victors with 23 points followed Isaac Frank with 15 and Brady Kelly with 10.

Dee-Mack 35, Farmington 31: Levi Scheuermann netted 17 points to lead the Chiefs in a defensive battle at the Sandburg Shootout.

GCMS 67, Hoopeston Area 47: Ryland Holt scored 18 points for GCMS while Connor Birky and Bryce Barnes added 10 each as the Falcons claimed a nonconference win at Gibson City. GCMS outscored Hoopeston 21-5 in the second quarter to grab a 37-14 halftime lead.

Lincoln 62, Centennial 49: Will Ewald drilled six 3-pointers and ended with 22 points to lead the Railsplitters to a nonconference victory at Champaign. Jermaine Hamlin added 20 points for the victors. Dayton Coleman and Jamonte Williams scored 14 each for Centennial.

Heyworth 49, North Mac 46: Steven Bobsin scored 13 points and Tazeden Eller 12 for Heyworth (7-9) in a win over North Mac (10-5) in the Clinton New Year's Showdown.

Sam Mount and Cole Etter scored 12 apiece for North Mac, which was outscored, 16-13, in the fourth quarter.

Clinton 77, Sangamon Valley 20: Matthew Overton scored 18 points and Cal Case 12 for Clinton (6-10) in a win over Sangamon Valley (2-9) in the Clinton New Year’s Showdown. Cameron Calhoun led Sangamon Valley with 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Central Catholic 57, Peru St. Bede 43: Lauren Shanks had 21 points, eight steals and six assists for Central Catholic (16-3) in a victory at Peru St. Bede (7-12).

The Saints, who played without star Bailey Coffman due to a sprained ankle, also received a career-high 16 points from Abbey Cox, who sank seven of nine shots from the field and grabbed five rebounds. Ivie Juarez also had five rebounds.

St. Bede received 13 points from Maggie Sons and 10 from Hannah Johnson.

Normal Community 66, Champaign Central 44: Illinois State recruit Mia Wong had 16 points and five assists while Evansville bound Abby Feit had 13 points and seven rebounds in a Normal Community (15-6, 5-0) victory at Champaign.

Chanice Willis led Champaign Central (11-8) with 18 points. The Maroons trailed at the quarter breaks, 18-10, 40-26 and 64-34.

Normal West 62, Champaign Centennial 26: Normal West (11-6, 3-2) bolted to a 24-10 first-quarter lead en route to a Big 12 Conference victory at Champaign. Tresoir Newson led the Wildcats with 13 points and four assists while Averie Hernandez added 10 points. Rosh Webb grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Silvia Du paced Centennial with seven points.

Springfield 43, University High 35: Grace Ward scored 11 points for University High (7-14, 4-5) in a Central State Eight Conference loss to visiting Springfield (15-5, 9-0).

Maya Fetter scored 14 points and Abby Ratsch 11 for the Senators.

Bloomington 68, Macomb 56: Lauren Strange scored a season-high 23 points to spark Bloomington (6-12) to victory over Macomb in the Galesburg Invitational. Bett O'Neal added 17 points and Kamaria Gant 11.

Dunlap 48, Bloomington 42: Bett O'Neal scored 17 points and Kamaria Gant 14 in a Bloomington loss at Galesburg.

Eureka 53, PBL 40: Illinois Central College recruit Courtney Heffren scored 17 points and Lauren Ausmus 15 to power Class 2A's No. 2-ranked Eureka (18-2) past visiting PBL (9-9).

PBL, which led 9-5 after one quarter, received 11 points from Baylee Cosgrove.

GCMS 51, Iroquois West 27: Makenzi Bielfeldt scored 15 points, Megan Moody 14 and Claire Retherford 13 as visiting GCMS topped Iroquois West, which received 12 points from Shelby Johnson.

Fieldcrest 50, LaMoille 12: Alyx Carls and Addie Goodrich scored 11 points apiece as Fieldcrest (13-7) swamped host LaMoille. The Knights led, 48-8, after three quarters.

Farmington 49, Tremont 41: Alli Fuller scored 14 points and Marley Aluyi 10 for Tremont in a loss at Farmington. The Turks took a 36-34 lead into the final period.

Clinton 50, Mount Pulaski 42: Mallory Cyrulik and Destiny Schlesinger scored 15 and 13 points, respectively, to pace Clinton to victory at Mount Pulaski.

The Toppers, who were within 31-28 after three quarters, were led by Skylar Hayes and Savanah Moore, who scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Mount Pulaski 64, Arthur Okaw Christian 59: Skylar Hayes scored 29 points and Savana Moore 12 for Mount Pulaski in a victory at the Lincoln Christian University Shootout.

Lexington 47, Fisher 38: Jayden Standish tallied 15 points and Jayalia Therien 11 for Lexington in a victory at Fisher. The Bunnies, who trailed 25-14 at halftime, received 14 points from Sidney Hood.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw 52, Midland 32: Deer Creek-Mackinaw topped host Midland behind 15 points from Jess Carithers and 11 apiece from Emma Miller and Audrey Thomann.

BOYS SWIMMING

NCHS 2nd in own invite: Normal Community scored 311 points to finish second in the eight-team Iron Invitational at NCHS where Edwardsville won with 363. Normal West was fourth (284), the Metamora co-op fifth (253) and Central Catholic eighth (151).

NCHS winners included freshman Tyson Tucci in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.60) and Christian Travis in the 500 freestyle (4:51.89). They joined Noah Dean and Ethan Lowder to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.03).

Metamora's Justin Alderson won the 200 individual medley (1:55.95) and 100 breaststroke (59.53).

U High 3rd at Champaign: University High scored 245 points to finish behind Waubonsie Valley (419) and Dunlap (415) in the 15-team Charger Invitational at Champaign. Bloomington finished ninth (105).

The Pioneers were led by winners Andy Ritsema in the 100 backstroke (53.63) and Josh Nepomuceno in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.25). They joined Camden Swigart and Alex Hess to finish second in the 200 medley relay (1:42.76).

BHS was paced by Robby Pratt, who was second in the 100 butterfly (54.03) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.85).
