The Normal West High School girls basketball team, still reeling from a Wednesday accident that took the life of team announcer Charlie Crabtree, defeated visiting Bradley-Bourbonnais, 56-44, on Saturday.

"I'm pretty proud of them," said Wildcat coach Corey Ostling, whose team improved to 7-2. "It came down to being mentally tough and being there for each other."

Olivia Demosthenes led West with 15 points while freshman Averie Hernandez chipped in a season-high 12. Rosh Webb provided eight rebounds and eight points.

Addy Lombardi scored 14 points for Bradley-Bourbonnais, which trailed 37-36 after three quarters.

Central Catholic 69, Byron 51: Bailey Coffman poured in a career-high 30 points to lead Central Catholic (6-3) to victory over visiting Byron (5-3). Coffman finished 15 of 21 from the field.

The Saints' Lauren Shanks had 14 points and 10 steals while Lillie Foley added seven rebounds and seven assists.

University High 59, Jacksonville 17: Junior guard Logan Murray led the Pioneers with 17 points in their Central State Eight Conference win at Jacksonville. U High (3-7, 2-2) won its third straight game after outscoring Jacksonville 21-0 in the second quarter.

Grace Ward and Abby Klein each added seven points for the Pioneers.

El Paso-Gridley 52, Roanoke-Benson 27: Ashley Stone had 14 points and five steals while Sierra Carr provided 12 points and nine rebounds for El Paso-Gridley (4-3) in a win over visiting Roanoke-Benson (3-9).

The Rockets were led by Maddie Monge's 12 points. Roanoke-Benson got the worst of a 26-18 difference in turnovers.

Lexington 57, Tremont 36: Jayden Standish scored 25 points to lead Lexington to victory at Tremont. Alli Fuller scored 13 points for the Turks, who trailed 21-8 after one quarter.

Clifton Central 50, Dwight 49: Despite Mel Stewart's career-high 33 points and 15 rebounds, Dwight lost to Clifton Central in the first round of the Raider Holiday Hoopla.

Dwight 56, Iroquois West 25: Kayla Kodat's 22 points and eight rebounds sparked Dwight (3-4) to victory over Iroqouis West in the second round of the Raider Holiday Hoopla at Gilman.

Dwight's Rylee Farris and Danielle Carlson added 10 points each while Stewart had eight points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Cissna Park 34, Fisher 32: Sloan Boyce's basket at the buzzer made Cissna Park a winner over Fisher at Parkland College in Champaign. Kylee Bishop scored nine points for the Bunnies. Boyce scored a game-high 15 points.

Pana 48, Clinton 37: Maddie Stevens scored 17 points for Clinton (6-5) during a home loss to Pana (8-3). Shania Schoonover tallied 16 points for Pana.

Lincoln 55, Rantoul 24: Emma Konczyk connected on a trio of 3's and scored 20 points to lead the Railsplitters to the win at Lincoln. Junior center Leah Schneider added 12 points for the Railers, who raced to a 25-1 first quarter lead.

WRESTLING

NCHS 2nd at Pontiac: Normal Community scored 207 points to finish second behind Joliet Central (222.5) in the 24-team Munch Pontiac Invitational.

Prairie Central was third with 205 as reigning state champion Brandon Hoselton won at 195 while teammate Logan Deacetis prevailed at 160 and Jake Woodrey came out on top at 220.

NCHS has a trip of runners-up in Joshua Degladillo (145), Gabriel Rivera (152) and Jadon Robinson (182). Other area second placers were Lincoln's Austin O'Donoghue (132) and Prairie Central's Josh Woodrey (285).

Tremont 2nd at Petersburg: Tremont, led by 182-pound champion Caidien Buster, scored 202 points to trail only Auburn (234) in the 26-team Rex Avery Petersburg Porta Invite.

Buster won his final against Riverton's Grant Ripperda, 7-5.

Kean wins at Plano: Payton Kean won the 195-pound title to highlight efforts by GCMS-Fisher in the Plano Reaper Classic. Teammates Cale Horsch (113) and Dakota Matthews (138) were second.

BOYS BASKETBALL

El Paso-Gridley 51, Delavan 26: El Paso-Gridley (7-0) scored the first 12 points of the game and the first 19 points of the second half en route to a victory over Delavan (3-5).

Jack Weber had 14 points and 12 rebounds for EPG. Teron Fairchild added 12 points and Silas Steiner 10. Charlie Hodges led Delavan with eight points.

Tremont 68, Lexington 51: Ryan Wagenbach scored 14 points while Titus Thompson, Landon Pflederer and Tim Rice tallied 12 apiece for Tremont in a win over visiting Lexington.

Tate Walcott had 17 points and Andrew Olson 15 for Lexington, which led at intermission, 24-21.

St. Joseph-Ogden 61, Tri-Valley 45: Jack Moore scored 11 points for the Vikings in a nonconference loss at Downs. Chance Izard had 22 for St. Joe.

Tuscola 48, Fisher 35: Carson Brozened scored 13 points for Fisher in a loss at Tuscola. The hosts received 19 points from Brayden Vonlaskin.

Rochester 49, Clinton 45: Matthew Overton scored 16 points for Clinton (4-6) in a loss to visiting Rochester (1-3). The victors received 14 points apiece from Henry Patterson and Lucas McCafferty.
