Mahomet boys run wild to win Taylorville title: The No. 6-state ranked Mahomet-Seymour High School boys cross country team scored 31 points to dominate the Taylorville Class 2A Regional on Saturday. Charleston was second with 70.
The Bulldogs, who advanced to next Saturday’s Decatur MacArthur Sectional, were led by runner-up Forrest Smoes (15:06) and fourth-placer Johnathan Schaap (15:43) on the 3-mile course.
Charleston’s Riley McInerney won in 14:51.
Other Bulldog scorers were Ethan Russell (5th, 15:57), Alex Keeble (7th, 16:02) and Matthew Chupp (13th, 16:25).
Five advance from Farmington: Five area teams led by No. 8-ranked Tremont in second (59) advanced from the Farmington 1A Regional to the Elmwood Sectional.
Elmwood won with 41. Olympia advanced third (94), Heyworth fifth (116), Central Catholic sixth (163) and Tri-Valley seventh (200).
Tremont’s Connor Ehnle won in 15:10 while teammate Caleb Imig took fourth (15:43). Among the individual qualifiers were Deer Creek-Mackinaw’s Forrest Anderson (16th, 16:42) and Eureka’s Alan Zimmerman (22nd, 16:53).
NCHS 4th: In the Minooka 3A Regional, Normal Community ran fourth (102) to advance to Saturday’s NCHS Sectional at Maxwell Park.
Sophomores Jared and Austin Peters placed 11th (16:03) and 12th (16:04), respectively, to lead the Big 12 Conference champion Ironmen. The winners were Minooka’s Joey Santillo (15:11) and New Lenox Lincoln-Way Central (38).
EPG, Fieldcrest advance: El Paso-Gridley qualified fourth (107) and Fieldcrest seventh (204) from the Peru St. Bede 1A Regional to the Oregon Sectional.
Jacob Ludy of EPG was 12th (17:42), three places ahead of Fieldcrest’s Levi Schillem (18:03).
Prairie Central, Gardner-Dwight qualify: Prairie Central scored 62 points to place second in the Kankakee McNamara 1A Regional behind Beecher (51). Gardner-Dwight advanced fourth (90).
State title favorite Grant Nykaza of Beecher won in 14:52 ahead of Gardner-Dwight’s Lane Hoffman (16:30). Prairie Central’s Brandon Allsup was fifth (17:00).
Streator 7th: Streator tallied 169 points to advance seventh from the Morris 2A Regional to the Peoria Notre Dame Sectional. Michael Novak led the Bulldogs in sixth (16:40).
PBL 4th: PBL scored 121 points to advance fourth from its own 1A Regional at Paxton to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional. Nick Porter paced PBL in seventh (16:31).
Illini Central 5th: Illini Central, led by Ean Albers in 27th (18:18), scored 148 points to advance fifth from the Franklin 1A Regional to the Elmwood Sectional.
Lincoln advances 3: Lincoln was eighth (200) in the Jacksonville 2A Regional, but advanced John Davis (8th, 15:30), Jake Day (45th, 18:00) and Andrew Wibben (48th, 18:15) to the MacArthur Sectional.
Clinton’s McClurg moves on: Clinton placed eighth (198) in the Carlinville 1A Regional, but saw Noah McClurg advance 16th (16:11) to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional.
