The Olympia High School boys cross country team and the Eureka girls both won in the 20-team Bureau Valley Invitational at Manlius at Saturday.

The Olympia boys scored 64 points to finish 66 ahead of runner-up Rock Falls. Eureka was third (132) as Kyle Johnson led area finishers in second (16:17) behind Rock Falls' Dawson Smith (16:08). Olympia was led by Logan Wheeler in eighth (16:56).

The Eureka girls, led by individual champion Emma Argo (18:26), scored 45 to top runner-up Rock Falls by three. Olympia was third (68). Argo won by 49 seconds.

U High boys 17th at Peoria: The University High boys scored 517 points to finish 17th in the 61-team Richard Spring Invitational at Peoria. U High's Cooper Wilkin led area entrants in 58th (15:44).

The U High girls were 38th (966) among 64 teams. The Pioneers' Britany Ziemer led area entrants in 134th (19:28). The fastest Pioneer was Mackie Madix, who ran 18:48 to finish fourth in the fresh-soph division.

Tremont's Sumer wins: Leland Sumer of Tremont won at the 11-team Dunlap Invitational, clocking 15:44 to help the Turks place seventh (178). Normal West, led by fourth-placer Luke Reinhart (16:30), was fourth (101).

For the girls, Delavan's Katie Springer finished second (18:47) behind Macy Priess (18:36) of team champion Dunlap (56). Tremont was seventh (178) and Normal West ninth (215).

EPG boys 11th, girls 16th: In the 18-team Minooka Flight Invitational, the El Paso-Gridley boys scored 80 points to finish 11th while the EPG girls tallied 101 for 16th. The Titans' top times came from Noah Smith (15th, 16:21) and Kate Atkins (19:31) in the first flights for boys and girls, respectively.

GOLF

Barger, U High take wins: Bloomington's T.J. Barger shot a 65 to win by a whopping eight strokes and University High was the team champion of the Dragon Classic at Lick Creek Golf Course in Pekin.

U High's Jackson Yoder was third at 74 and Central Catholic's Parker Wisdom finished fifth at 75.

The Pioneers' team total of 309 bested the 312 of Edwardsville. BHS was third at 312 with Normal Community fourth at 316.

U High girls third: University High shot 325 to tie for third with Loyola in the 16-team Mike Rusk Memorial Invitational hosted by Decatur Eisenhower at Hickory Point Golf Course in Decatur. Barrington won with a 298 ahead of Winnetka New Trier at 314. Normal Community was sixth (345).

U High's Jadyn Spinks shot 76 to tie for sixth while Allison Enchelmeyer of NCHS shot 77 to tie for eighth. Barrington's Caroline Smith and New Trier's Penni Tir tied for first at 71.

Olympia girls 3rd: Olympia shot a 2-under-par 70 to finish third in the 10-team LeRoy Five-Girl Scramble. Champaign St. Thomas More shot 60 to win. El Paso-Gridley shot 71 to tie for fourth with Champaign Centennial.

SOCCER

Clay, U High win: Nathan Clay scored twice, pushing his career total to 96 during University High's 5-1 victory over visiting Washington.

Also scoring for the Pioneers (9-3) were Camden Brown, J.D. Kelley and Cayden Redd. Providing assists were Brown, Clay, Kelley and Sam Moore. Ryan Kastl scored for Washington (5-6), which was outshot, 14-6.

MacCallan Conklin made five saves for U High, which played the final 63 minutes a man down after Wyatt Berg received two yellow cards.

Edwardsville blanks West: Edwardsville led 3-0 at halftime and completed a 5-0 nonconference triumph over Normal West at Normal.

Edwardsville improved to 16-1, while the Wildcats slipped to 9-3-1.

BHS blanked: Mahomet-Seymour shut out visiting Bloomington, 5-0, to drop the Purple Raiders to 4-5-2.

Cornerstone wins: Visiting Cornerstone (11-2) downed Decatur Lutheran, 8-0.

TENNIS

U High 3rd in Gold Invite: University High scored 37 points to finish third in the 16-team Bloomington Gold Invitational, which was won by Belleville East with 73. Normal West was fifth (32), Normal Community ninth (25) and BHS 13th (10).

U High's top finisher was No. 1 singles runner-up Abby Totten. The NCHS duo of Grace Walls and Kavya Sudhir finished second in No. 1 doubles. West was led by No. 4 singles champion Destiny Hartrich-Jackson.

Area fourth placers in singles were Kelsie Ayers of BHS (No. 1), Annika Hiredesai of NCHS (No. 3) and West's Kacie Quick (No. 5). Placing fourth in doubles were U High's Totten and Krithi Kandury (No. 2) and Calis Lim and Irene Park (No. 3).

SWIMMING

Rink keys BHS to 2nd: Macy Rink won the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.98) and 100 freestyle (52.95) to power Bloomington to 286 points and second place in the Charger Invitational at Champaign where Buffalo Grove won with 440.

NCHS 3rd in own invite: Normal Community scored 241 points to finish third in its nine-team invitational, which Edwardsville won with 378. Metamora was fifth (231) and Normal West sixth (227).

Metamora's Kaia Bridenbaugh won the varsity 500-yard freestyle in 5:25.36. Normal West's Emily Hartman was second in the 500 free (5:29.68) and 200 free (2:00.67).

U High 2nd at invite: University High’s 436 points were just shy of team champion Lincoln-Way West’s 437 in the Lincoln-Way West College Events Invitational at New Lenox.

U High’s Lilly Culp was first in the 400 individual medley and 200 butterfly. Other Pioneer winners were Caroline Bazan (200 freestyle), Olivia Haerr (100 freestyle) and Poleena Kovalaske (200 breaststroke).

Also touching first were the U High 400 medley relay of Hadley Fudge, Kovalaske, Culp and Haerr and the 800 freestyle relay of Culp, Bazan, Emma Stroh and Kovalaske.

VOLLEYBALL

Blue Ridge wins tourney: The host Knights (19-3) won the Blue Ridge Round Robin Tournament by going 4-0. Ridgeview went 3-1 while Cornerstone was 0-4 in the five-team gathering.

Making the all-tournament team for Blue Ridge were Hannah Brackenhoff, Avery Fisher and Polly Reynolds. Ridgeview's Mya Tinsley and Kelly Jones also received all-tourney honors. For the day, Blue Ridge was led by Fisher's 67 assists, Brackenhoff's 44 digs and Reynolds' 27 kills and five blocks.

Fieldcrest 4th in own invite: Fieldcrest went 2-3 in its own invitational to finish fourth. Delavan placed fifth, Pontiac sixth and Roanoke-Benson seventh.

In the third-place match, Peru St. Bede topped Fieldcrest, 25-20, 25-23. Earlier, Fieldcrest downed Midland (25-20, 25-14) and Delavan (25-18, 25-20), but lost to St. Bede (25-16, 23-25, 15-12) and Mendon Unity (25-17, 25-20). Emma Petersen led Fieldcrest with 36 kills on the day while Lexi Jochums had 52 asssits and Madi Hock 28 digs.

Mount Pulaski 4th: Mount Pulaski went 1-2 on Saturday to finish fourth in the Mount Pulaski Fall Festival. Hartsburg-Emden was seventh, Eureka ninth and Lincoln 16th.

Mount Pulaski's Abigail Fitzpatrick and Skylar Hayes made the all-tournament team along with Hartsburg-Emden's Anna Hayse and Eureka's Hailey Flowers. Eureka went 2-1, Hartem was 3-0 and Lincoln 1-2.

Streator held winless: Skyler Bedeker totaled 15 kills as Streator lost five matches at the Bradley Bourbonnais Inviational. Taytum Williams had 11 kills and 39 digs, while Taylor Hoskins contributed 11 kills, 35 digs and 23 assists.
