Melissa Pish clocked 59.12 seconds to win the 100-yard backstroke and break the 2013 Normal West High School record in a home triangular swim meet on Tuesday.
Pish broke the record of 1:00.39 set by Kayla Orendorff in 2009. Pish's time, which ranks second in Pantagraph area history, came as the Wildcats scored 130 points to defeat Pontiac (46) and Lincoln (9).
West blanks Richwoods: Jordan Walker had three goals and one assist as Normal West topped visiting Peoria Richwoods, 6-0.
The Wildcats (8-2, 2-0) also received two goals and one assist from Parker Theobald. Clayton Davis added one goal and one assist. Other assists came from Ryan Weber and Delphy Sabu.
Ethan Stroyan made four saves for the Wildcats, who outshot their guest, 19-4.
Central swamps Olympia: Noah Bevilacqua and Miguel Yu each had two goals for Central Catholic (8-3) in a 7-0 victory at Olympia.
Also scoring were Daniel Broadbear, Kyle Vroman and Mael Kazigwa. Assists came from Ryan Thomas, Kazigwa and Broadbear. Central outshot the Spartans, 25-2.
Ironmen tie: Normal Community and Urbana played to a 0-0 standoff in a Big 12 battle at Normal. NCHS (5-2-2, 1-0-1) watched goalie Austin Woodside make four saves.
Rochester blanks U High: Jacob Milnes and Ben Duban scored first-half goals to lead Rochester (7-4) to a 2-0 win over visiting University High (6-3, 1-1).
Cornerstone, RBE tie: Host Cornerstone (5-5-1) tied Roanoke-Benson-Eureka, 2-2.
Cornerstone's Webby Phiri scored off an assist from Brian Matipa and teammate James McBride scored on a penalty kick. RBE outshot its host, 7-3.
Calvary falls: Calvary dropped a 4-0 decision to Blue Ridge at Normal. Jeb Bender had six saves for the Knights (4-3-1).
Landon Magenheimer and Brendan Flannell each scored twice for Blue Ridge (9-4-1). Providing assists were Traycen Gilman and Victor Reynolds.
West wins: Dara Kane scored four aces and dished out 13 assists to lead Normal West to a 25-10, 25-9 Big 12 Conference win over Peoria at Normal. Hannah Sieg had six kills for the Wildcats (6-5, 2-0) who also received five digs from Kylie Bryant.
NCHS rolls: Normal Community breezed to a 25-5, 25-7 Big 12 win over Peoria Manual at Normal. Gladys Tungu had five kills for the Iron (6-0, 1-0) while Emma Pals added eight assists. Colby Oltman contributed four aces.
U High rolls to win: Macy Tongate had a team-high six kills for University High in a 25-15, 25-22 victory at Rochester (12-5, 3-1). Amber Juarez added 12 digs and Isabel Schaefbauer 11 assists for U High (9-8, 2-1).
Calvary loses: Mackenzie Sturgill had seven kills, 13 digs and three aces, but Calvary was defeated by Danville First Baptist, 15-25, 25-17, 25-20, at Danville. Jacy Wingate had six kills and 11 assists for the Knights (2-7).
Tri-Valley tops Tremont: Hannah Rudsinski's six kills and Lauren Gilmore's 17 assists helped Tri-Valley to a 25-12, 25-9 win over host Tremont. Hannah Clayton and Ryleigh Warfel contributed seven blocks and 14 digs, respectivelym for the Vikings (7-1, 3-0. Violet Thompson had three kills and four assists for the Turks (5-5, 0-3).
Fieldcrest wins: Emma Petersen had eight kills to lead Fieldcrest to a 25-17, 25-12 win over GCMS at Minonk. Alaina Tjaden added 10 assists and Madi Hock had six digs for the Knights (5-4, 2-1). Mady Schutte had 10 assists for GCMS (3-5, 2-3).
Dee-Mack outlasts Lexington: Carson Smalley had eight kills and eight digs to lead Deer Creek-Mackinaw to a 25-15, 25-23 win over Lexington at Mackinaw. Morgan Burr added 15 assists for the Chiefs (6-3, 3-0). Jayden Standish had eight kills and 11 digs for Lexington with Emma White dishing out 16 assists.
EPG rallies past LeRoy: Ashlyn Mool had 11 digs and three blocks while Madi Funk had 10 kills and 21 assists to lead El Paso-Gridley to a 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over LeRoy. Morgan Ryder had 24 digs with Cheyenne Carr contributing 27 assists for the Titans (2-1, 7-4). Cara Levingston had six kills and six blocks for LeRoy (0-3, 2-8).
Olympia tops Prairie Central: Dani Litwiller and Kalli Terrell had five kills each for Olympia in a 25-18, 25-14 home win over Prairie Central. Jaci Terrell added 11 assists and seven digs for Olympia (8-6, 1-0). Prairie Central (6-3) had nine digs from Faith Bachtold.
Eureka edges Heyworth: Hailey Flowers had 16 kills to lead Eureka to a 17-25, 25-18, 25-19 win at Heyworth. Lauren Ausmus added 11 kills, while Maddie McCunn had 12 digs and 19 assists. Heyworth was paced by Haley Sieg with 16 kills and Amber Tomlin with 23 assists.
Lincoln wins: Grace Bossingham had seven kills and two blocks as Lincoln (7-2, 2-1) won, 25-11, 25-20, at Effingham. Megan Lolling chipped in 20 assists while Mackenzie Antoine had 16 digs.
Flanagan tops Fisher: Kayla Vanwedden had six kills and two blocks for Flanagan-Cornell in a 25-17, 25-19 over visiting Fisher. Casey Wagner had 11 digs for Fisher.
Roanoke rolls: Paige Sauder had six kills and two blocks for Roanoke-Benson in a 25-17, 25-12 win Putnam County. Maddy Oltman chipped in 14 service points and two blocks.
Mount Pulaski prevails: Abigail Fitzpatrick's eight kills and 15 digs led Mount Pulaski to a 25-20, 25-21 victory over Decatur St. Teresa. Skylar Hayes added eight kills and 11 digs, while Isabella Wade had 21 assists.
Pontiac boys win: Pontiac scored 68 points to win the Panther Invitational at Dwight by 25 points over runner-up Peotone. Prairie Central was third (99). Seth Corrigan led the Indians in 13th place (17:38).
The top area finishers were El Paso-Gridley's Bo Halvorsen and Noah Smith in fourth (16:27.0) and fifth (16:27.3), respectively.
For the girls, Prairie Central placed fourth (102). The Hawks' Jadyn Stephens led area finishers in 15th (21:38).
