BLOOMINGTON — The Dwight High School cheerleading team claimed the IHSA small school state title Saturday by posting a score of 87.20 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Dwight, which posted the top preliminary round score of 87.30 on Friday, edged runner-up Rockridge by two-tenths of a point to earn the title. The Trojans had never finished higher than 14th in previous trips to the state competition.
PBL placed sixth in the small school division at 82.48.
University High’s coed team placed ninth with an 84.94 score. Buffalo Grove won the division at 92.48.
New Lenox Providence claimed the large team title with a 93.72, edging Chicago Marist by .70. Columbia topped the medium team division with a 90.92.
Dwight will host a 1 p.m. community pep rally Sunday in the high school gymnasium.
