FYI: NCHS, which took second in the Intercity Tournament, will be playing its Big 12 Conference and home opener ... The Ironmen will be celebrating surpassing 1,500 wins in school history with a special presentation prior to the varsity game ... All former NCHS players are invited to attend the game for free ... They are asked to sign-in upon entering ... NCHS has been led by 6-7 senior CJ Wilbourn (13.8 points per game), a Wisconsin-Milwaukee recruit ... Senior point guard Daylen Boddie has added 12.0 and senior forward Dishon Hall II 11.0 ... Peoria Notre Dame, which returned much of last year's 15-15 team, won the season-opening Canton Thanksgiving Tournament ... Among the Irish's leaders are junior twins Connor and Declan Dillon.

West vs. Urbana

FYI: Normal West hopes to benefit from getting some practice time this week. The Wildcats' football team advanced to the Class 6A quarterfinals, limiting West's practices prior to the Intercity Tournament ... West was led by junior forward Cole Hernandez (13.8 ppg) in the Intercity, followed closely by senior guard Shea Cupples (13.5) and junior forward Evan Hutson (13.3) ... The Wildcats will continue to be without senior forward Terance Montgomery-Fisher because of a stress fracture in his foot. Junior guard Alec McGinnis also will miss Friday's Big 12 opener with a foot injury ... Urbana went 2-2 in the Tournament of Champions in Washington.

Central vs. Eureka

Records: Eureka 5-0; Central Catholic 0-4

FYI: Eureka is off to a hot start after winning the GCMS Thanksgiving Tournament at Gibson City ... The Hornets went to 5-0 Tuesday with a 75-67 victory over Peoria Christian ... Six-eight Keegan Zimmerman has been the catalyst for Eureka with a 27.6 scoring average ... Central is looking to bounce back in the nonconference game from an 0-4 Intercity Tournament ... Last year, the Saints started 0-4, but ended 25-7 and third in the state in Class 2A ... Central was led in the Intercity by senior guard Luke Yoder (13.8 ppg) and senior forward Tommy Nelson (13.5).

U High vs. SH-Griffin

Where: Bank of Springfield Center (formerly Prairie Capital Convention Center), Springfield

Records: University High 2-2; Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 3-2

FYI: The game is part of the Capital City Showcase featuring Central State Eight Conference teams ... The Pioneers placed third in the Intercity Tournament after Monday's 45-43 win over Central Catholic ... Senior Nate Torres hit two late free throws for the win and has a team-high 14.5 scoring average ... Also in double figures are juniors Alex Wood (11.0) and Drew Wollenschlager (10.0) ... Sacred Heart-Griffin split four games in the Galesburg Tournament before a 69-50 win Tuesday over Springfield Calvary ... The Cyclones were led by Nick Broeker's 21 points and 10 rebounds.
