CHAMPAIGN — Nick Iannantone rushed for 318 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Joliet Catholic past Lombard Montini, 35-27, in the Class 5A state championship football game at Memorial Stadium.
Iannantone scored on runs of 3, 9 and 18 yards, with the 18-yarder giving Joliet Catholic (10-4) a 28-27 lead with 7:48 remaining. Keenan Hailey added a 30-yard scoring run with 1:33 left for the Hilltoppers, who then held off a late Montini scoring drive. Joliet Catholic attempted only three passes, completing one for 15 yards.
Illinois recruit Nick Fedanzo rushed for 186 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries for Montini (12-2). He had TD runs of 34, 12 and 20 yards.
Cary-Grove 35, Crete-Monee 13: Blake Skol and Ben McDonald each rushed for over 100 yards as top-seeded Cary-Grove (14-0) ran past No. 11 seed Crete-Monee (10-4).
Skol had 123 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries, while McDonald had 113 yards and two scores in 29 attempts. McDonald was 3 of 4 passing for 23 yards, but two completions were touchdowns.
Trayvon Rudolph was 14 of 23 for 174 yards and a touchdown for Crete-Monee.
Nazareth 31, St. Charles North 10: JJ McCarthy threw for 201 yards and a touchdown to lead eighth-seeded Nazareth Academy to the win over No. 22 seed St. Charles North. McCarthy was 15 of 24 with no interceptions, firing a 61-yard TD pass to Diamond Evans.
Michael Love rushed for 87 yards, including a 59-yard scoring run, for Nazareth (13-1).
St. Charles North (10-4) was led by Minnesota recruit Tyler Nubin's 70 yards rushing on 15 carries. The North Stars' offensive coordinator is former Central Catholic quarterback and assistant coach Brian Flynn.
