GIBSON CITY -- GCMS qualified for its sixth consecutive playoff appearance with a convincing homecoming win over Fieldcrest at Gibson City on Friday.
Quarterback Stephan Birt rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Falcons (6-1, 5-1) raced to a 29-7 halftime lead.
GCMS scored on its first five possessions, with Birt finding the end zone on runs of 46 and 4 yards. He also completed 5 of 6 passes for 95 yards, connecting with Cody Gaesser on an 8-yard scoring pass before teaming up with Michael Romshek for a touchdown on a 52-yard pass play.
Romshek had three receptions for 74 yards. He also scored on an 8-yard run and led the Falcons' rushing attack with 97 yards on 13 carries
Fieldcrest (2-5, 2-4) took the opening kickoff and marched 80 yards on 13 plays to take an early lead on a 1-yard run by Zach Meyer.
GCMS held the Knights the rest of the way and limited Fieldcrest to only 27 net yards in the second half.
Matt Gerardo led Fieldcrest with 82 yards on 14 carries. Matt Stevenson rushed for 69 yards on 14 carries.
