5 years ago (2004): Multi-sport athletes Jennifer Kobus of Central Catholic and Brian Sinn of University High were among 26 seniors statewide who were named to the Illinois High School Association's All-State Academic Team. They were awarded $1,000 scholarships for college.

15 years ago (1994): Kim Lang slugged three home runs to lead Central Catholic to a pair of victories over Olympia in Corn Belt Conference Softball action. Lang hit two homers in the 6-3 first game. She then hit a game-tying solo homer in the seventh inning and drove in the winning run in the eighth of a 12-11 victory.

25 years ago (1984): Dan Freed and the rest of the Lexington baseball team toppled Tri-Valley, 13-3, in quarterfinal action of the Central Catholic Regional at Lexington. Freed had three hits, including two home runs, and a walk in four at-bats and drove in six runs.

50 years ago (1959): The contract for the new $7.75 million Assembly Hall at the University of Illinois was awarded to the Felmley-Dickerson Company of Bloomington. Unquestionably it will be the scene of the 1962 state basketball tourney since it will seat 18,500 persons, making it the largest edifice of its kind in the state.
