5 years ago (2003): Illinois State's Samantha Richdale was named the Missouri Valley Conference women's golfer of the week for the third time after her performance at the 28th annual Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational at Winter Park, Fla. Richdale, a freshman, shot 78-73-151 to finish ninth.

15 years ago (1993): Steve Kuehl was named the most valuable player on the Illinois Wesleyan basketball team for the second straight season. Kuehl's feat matched that of his brother, Jeff, who won the award in 1989 and '90. Steve paced the Titans with a 17.8 scoring average.

25 years ago (1983): Ohio University freshman guard Robert Tatum beat the clock and Illinois State with a 20-foot falling down jump shot in the first round of the NCAA Mideast Regional at Tampa, Fla. Ohio wound up with a 51-49 victory and ISU finished its season with a 24-7 record.

50 years ago (1958): Dave Schertz of Illinois State was named to the Interstate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference all-star basketball team. Schertz is a junior from Hopedale. Two Pantagraph area products were on the second team: Frank Wolf (Benson) of Eastern Illinois and Larry Gentry (Clinton) of Northern Illinois.
