5 years ago (2003): Illinois Wesleyan coach Dave Barrett earned coach of the year honors for women's soccer in the CCIW. The Titans placed three players (Lauren Boegen, Ann Bernard and Katie Kelly) on the women's first team and one player (Alan Mila) on the men's first team.

15 years ago (1993): Granted it was only an exhibition game, but Illinois State's 108-78 victory over the Arkansas Express backed up Kevin Stallings' promise to have an up-tempo game in his first season as the Redbirds' head coach. ISU pushed past the century mark for the first time in Redbird Arena's five-year history.

25 years ago (1983): Jeff McKinney, a wingback from Metamora, won the Most Valuable Player award on the Illinois Valley Community College football team at Oglesby. McKinney, a sophomore, ranked among the national junior college leaders in scoring with 17 touchdowns and one two-point conversion for 104 points.

50 years ago (1958): Lincoln Community High School will dedicate its new gymnasium Nov. 28 when the Railsplitters meet an old basketball rival, Clinton. With 3,500 seats available, Athletic Director Ray Anderson feels that headaches in the ticket situation have been eliminated.
