Olympia High School's Keaton Fogler and Austin Weaver and Prairie Central's Brandon Hoselton and Drew Hoselton were unanimous selections on the inaugural Illini Prairie all-conference wrestling team released Monday.
Also making the first team from the area were Olympia's Wesly Litwiller and Lane Miller, Pontiac's Liam Melvin and Prairie Central's Cade Kerns.
The remainder of the unanimous choices were Rantoul's Peter McCusker and Nolan Roseman, Monticello's Ethan O'Linc, St. Joseph-Ogden's Jake Wendling and Tolono Unity's Jake Frost.
Saints drop opener: The Central Catholic girls soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to St. Thomas More in the Saints' season opener at Champaign.
St. Thomas More scored all three of its goals in the opening seven minutes before the teams settled into a defensive struggle. The Sabers outshot the Saints 26-5. Central goalie Kylee Hadley had 23 saves.
WGCY all-star game set: The annual WGCY Radio all-star basketball games will be Saturday at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School in Gibson City. The games pit senior stars from the Heart of Illinois Conference against those from the Sangamon Valley Conference.
The girls game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the boys game to follow. There will be a dunk contest between games. The Eureka girls team will be recognized for its Class 2A state final four appearance, while the Ridgeview and Deer Creek-Mackinaw boys squds will be honored for their super-sectional appearances.
