Heyworth High School sophomore Adyson Slayback pitched a no-hitter Saturday to lead the Hornets to a 2-0 victory over Fisher in the championship game of the Class 1A Fisher Regional softball tournament at Fisher.

Slayback struck out eight and walked two. She also contributed two hits on offense, including a double. The key hit of the game was a two-run double by Morgan Spencer in the sixth inning. Heyworth moves on to the Dwight Sectional against Dwight at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Olympia nips GCMS: Kaelyn Leverson pitched a three-hitter as Olympia slipped past GCMS, 2-1, to win the Class 2A El Paso-Gridley Regional at El Paso. Leverson struck out seven and walked none in outdueling GCMS' Madi Eberle.

Eberle hit a solo home run in the first inning. In the circle, she struck out 12 and walked three. Kate Finchum led Olympia with two hits. The Spartans advanced to the GCMS Sectional, where they meet St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Argenta clips LeRoy: Argenta-Oreana scored twice in the first inning and hung on for a 3-1 decision over LeRoy in the title game of the LeRoy Class 1A Regional.

Danielle Hanshew had two hits for LeRoy (21-12). Charly Warlow drove in the lone Panthers' run.

Rockridge eliminates Tremont: Tremont could not hold an early 2-0 lead in a 5-2 loss to Rockridge in a 2A regional final at Taylor Ridge. Abby Leber stroked two of Tremont's five hits.

Dwight cruises to title: Macey Rodosky swatted two home runs and drove in six to key Dwight to a five-inning, 14-1 trouncing of St. Anne in the championship game of the Dwight 1A Regional.

Kaitlyn Masching had three hits and three RBIs for the Trojans. Abby Edwards pitched the complete-game victory, striking out eight and walking none.

Clinton edges U High: Destiny Schlesinger tripled home Camdyn Alsup with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand Clinton a 2-1 regular season win over University High at Clinton.

Schlesinger had two of Clinton's five hits. Olivia Sanders was the winning pitcher. Abby Knight contributed three hits and Emily O'Leary two for the Pioneers.

Prairie Central bows out: Kankakee Bishop McNamara scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to claim a 3-2 triumph over host Prairie Central in a 2A regional title contest.

Faith Bachtold (7-2) took the loss for the Hawks, who ended their season at 12-14.

NCHS wins twice: Normal Community capped its regular season with wins over Mount Zion, 10-0, and Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 7-1, at Normal. Reece Johnson had four hits and Ashley Klinzing three, including a home run, against Mount Zion. Mackenzie Leonard (16-3) allowed two hits in the six-inning contest.

Leonard had three hits, while Klinzing and Jessica Laughlin added two each against Sacred Heart-Griffin. Kaci Shickel pitched five scoreless innings for the Iron (20-7).

West wins big: Normal West scored eight second-inning runs en route to a 12-1 win over Wheaton Academy at the Chicago Bandits Jamboree.

Emma Boitnott had two hits and two RBIs for the Wildcats (22-12). Savana Mattson pitched three innings for the win, and Rylee McGonigle worked the final two frames of the contest stopped because of the 10-run rule.

BASEBALL

Olympia trips Tri-Valley: Caleb Miesner had two hits and two RBIs in Olympia's 11-6 win over Tri-Valley in the Class 2A PBL Regional championship game at Paxton. Alex Unsicker also had two hits and scored three times for the Spartans, who play in the Central Catholic Regional at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at McGraw Park.

Drew Rudsinski and Matthew Manint had two hits each for Tri-Valley. Losing pitcher Matt Mier had a home run and two RBIs.

Eureka edges Tremont: Austin Davis' walkoff RBI double lifted Eureka to a 7-6 win over Tremont in the Class 2A Eureka Regional title game. Davis and Adam Anderson each had two hits and three RBIs for the Hornets, who play in the Sherrard Sectional at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Tremont was paced by Marco Falcon and Logan Pflederer with two hits apiece.

LeRoy advances: Nate Sammer had three hits and drove in two runs to pace LeRoy past Peoria Christian, 11-2, in the Class 1A Peoria Heights Regional title game. Nick Perry added two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers (22-9), who play at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Illinois Wesleyan Sectional at Horenberger Field.

Will Dooley (7-3) got the win with 4⅔ innings of scoreless relief.

Monge keys Roanoke-Benson: Ben Monge had two doubles among his three hits and drove in five runs in Roanoke-Benson's 14-6 win over Heyworth in the Class 1A Blue Ridge Regional title game at Farmer City. Winning pitcher Sam Hodel added three hits and two RBIs for the Rockets, who play at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Illinois Wesleyan Sectional at Horenberger Field.

U High wins pair: University High defeated Rantoul, 2-0, and Champaign central, 15-4, at the Champaign Central Tournament.

John Merna's two-run second-inning home run was all the offense U High needed against Rantoul. Jack Sauser allowed just one hit, struck out six and walked three in seven innings for the pitching win.

Matt Mier laced four hits against Champaign Central. Parker Mathiesen knocked in three runs, and Paul Africano, Nate Hardman, Owen Martin and Merna had two apiece.

Rochester clips BHS: Ethan Crutcher's two hits and two RBIs led the Bloomington effort in a 10-2 nonconferencee loss at Rochester. The Purple Raiders' record stands at 17-16.

NCHS defeated: Bradley-Bourbonnais pushed across a seventh-inning run to slip past Normal Community at Bourbonnais. The Ironmen were limited to three hits with Brady Fletcher driving in the run for NCHS (23-7).

BOYS TENNIS

NCHS doubles teams advance: Normal Community had two doubles teams earn state berths in the Class 3A Bradley Bourbonnais Sectional. NCHS' Parker Honegger and Shanku Nair placed second, while the Ironmen's Nachiketh Rotte and James Broach took third. The top four placers in singles and doubles advanced to next week's State Tournament.

NCHS was second with 19 points. Moline won with 28.

Streator, Pontiac earn berths: Streator sophomore Greg Rashid advanced to state by taking third at the Class 1A Ottawa Sectional. In doubles, the Pontiac duo of Griffin Brunner and Rocco Sartoris qualified for state by placing fourth.

GIRLS SOCCER

Steffens keys NCHS to title: Caelyn Steffens had two goals and two assists to lead Normal Community past host Pekin, 5-0, for the championship of the Class 3A Pekin Regional. Grace Blair, Ryann Anderson and Katy Quinn also scored for NCHS (19-4-2).

Anderson added two assists and Emma Spader made three saves as the Iron advanced to play Minooka at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the NCHS Sectional. Coach Matt Chapman's team led 3-0 at the half and had 25 shots on goal to three for Pekin (13-8).

"Pekin had a couple of offensive threats and our defense did a great job of really neutralizing them," Chapman said. "Our passing and our movement off the ball and our mentality on our attack was really dialed in. It was fun to watch."

BASS FISHING

Clinton takes 14th: Clinton led area schools with a 14th place in the State Bass Fishing Tournament at Carlyle Lake. Clinton caught six fish weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces in the two-day event. Tremont tied for 18th, Normal Community placed 35th and Eureka tied for 42nd.
