Normal Community High School senior forward CJ Wilbourn was a second-team selection on the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 4A all-state team released Friday.

The Pantagraph area had three players make the third team in Class 3A: University High senior forward Nate Torres, U High junior guard Alex Wood and Lincoln senior forward Jermaine Hamlin.

Area players earning special mention were Lincoln junior Kaden Froebe and Pontiac senior Joseph Murphy in 3A, and Normal West senior Shea Cupples and Bloomington senior Caleb Donaldson in 4A.


U High suffers loss: Christ School scored four runs in the first inning and went on to a 7-0 victory over University High at Sanford, Fla. U High had two hits off of winning pitcher Mac Gortney, including a double by Caleb Gross. Starter Jackson Powell took the loss.

Nate Hardman, the second of four U High hurlers, allowed no earned runs and struck out five in 4⅓ innings.

West opens with loss: Normal West was outhit, 12-5, and dropped a 14-7 decision to Oswego in the Wildcats' season opener in the O'Fallon Tournament at Edwardsville.

The Wildcats rallied from a 5-0 deficit to plate five runs and tie the game in the fourth inning, before Oswego East answered with four runs in the top of the fifth. Alec McGinnis tripled and drove home three runs for West, while Will Kafer doubled and had two hits and Evan Wallgren two RBIs.

West used five pitchers with C.J. Lewis tagged with the loss in relief of starter Will Kafer.


West falls in soccer opener: Arya Ghandi gave the Normal West High School girls soccer team a 1-0 lead in the opening minute-and-a-half of the match before the Wildcats fell to Glenbrook North, 2-1, at Northbrook.

Lexi Aranda was credited with an assist in the Wildcats' season opener.

"It was a good learning experience for us," said West coach Val Walker. "We have a lot of new girls, a lot of new faces, girls figuring out their roles."

Glenbrook North outshot the Wildcats, 8-4. Becca Neilsen had seven saves for West.
