Central Catholic High School junior Jonathan Naour pitched a no-hitter Saturday as the fourth-seeded Saints edged top-seeded Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, 1-0, in the Class 2A GCMS Regional championship baseball game at Gibson City.

Naour (6-0) struck out eight and walked three as the Saints (14-18) advanced to their own sectional to face St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at McGraw Park.

Central scored in the third on an RBI double by Patrick Mulcahey, who had two doubles in the game. Nathan Garard struck out six and walked one for GCMS (19-5).

NCHS gives Short No. 300: Griffin McCluskey had three hits as Normal Community downed Bradley-Bourbonnais, 3-1, at Normal, earning coach Ryan Short's 300th victory.

Jack Schirpke and Jacob Newberry each added two hits and an RBI for the Ironmen (24-6). Nick Gilhaus (8-1) allowed one hit and no runs in five innings.

West prevails: Austin Collinson got the win and Cody Hardt had two hits and drove in two runs as Normal West defeated visiting Maine South, 4-1. Collinson (5-4) and Evan Wallgren combined to allow just one hit as West improved to 26-6.

U High wins two of three: Parker Mathieson had a single, triple and two RBIs in University High's 8-5 nonconference loss to Morton at the Champaign Wooden Bat Tournament.

The Pioneers bounced back to defeat Mahomet-Seymour 5-2. MacCallan Conklin had three hits and an RBI. Jack Sauser struck out 11 in a two-hitter. U High (25-8) also beat Rantoul, 11-3. Conklin and Mathieson had two hits each.

LeRoy earns title: Mason Buckles and Colin Meyer each had two hits and three RBIs in LeRoy's 17-5, five-inning win over Peoria Christian in the Class 1A LeRoy Regional title game at LeRoy. LeRoy (22-5) advanced to the Illinois Wesleyan Sectional at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hodges fuels Delavan: Charlie Hodges pitched a no-hitter and also had a home run among his three hits in Delavan's 10-0, five-inning win over Peoria Heights in the Class 1A Roanoke-Benson Regional title game at Roanoke. Hodges struck out nine.

Eureka advances: Daniel Frank belted a solo home run as Eureka downed Fieldcrest, 10-0, in six innings in the Class 2A Fieldcrest Regional at Minonk. Winning pitcher Brady Krile struck out eight and had two RBIs.

TENNIS

NCHS rolls to sectional title: Normal Community advanced both singles players and both doubles teams to state while rolling to the Class 2A Moline Sectional title. NCHS had 28 points to 16 for runner-up Moline.

Parker Honegger captured the No. 1 singles title, winning 6-1, 6-0 over Moline's Dylan Wiemers in the finals. Freshman Maxim Pavlovic advanced by placing third in singles.

The Ironmen senior doubles team of James Broach and Adarsh Kurumbail won the title over a Moline duo, 6-3, 6-3. Another NCHS senior tandem, Drew Runkel and Prajith Nerandran, took third place.

SOFTBALL

West rolls past Naperville: Normal West pounded out 13 hits in support of the two-hit pitching of Rylee McGonigle in a 15-3 win over Naperville Central in the Chicago Bandits Jamboree at Rosemont. Kacie Quick had a triple among her two hits and three RBIs for West (25-5).

Kuhn, U High nip Clinton: Jen Kuhn struck out 11 and held Clinton hitless over five innings to lead University High to a 2-1 win over the Maroons at Normal. Kuhn (13-2) also drove in a run and Abby Knight led the Pioneers (27-6) with three hits.

Raiders win: Winning pitcher Ellie Vetter allowed three hits and struck out 15 in Bloomington's 3-1 over Morton at Bloomington. Danielle Shuey had a pair of doubles and an RBI.

NCHS splits pair: Normal Community downed Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin, 14-4, after losing to Mount Zion, 21-9, in the Bob Grimes Classic at NCHS.

Ella Fletcher had three hits and three RBIs in the win, with Addy Boundy adding three hits and two RBIs. Alison Kern hit a home run and was the winning pitcher. Boundy also had a homer, a single and five RBIs against Mount Zion.

Eberle, GCMS tip Saints: Madi Eberle struck out 13 and hit a home run as GCMS downed Central Catholic, 3-2, in the Class 2A GCMS Regional championship game at Gibson City.

Eberle walked one and allowed four hits. Central's Bailey Coffman struck out 14, walked three and allowed four hits. She also had two hits and an RBI.

Tremont edges Brimfield: A first-inning home run by Hannah Nguyen and a three-hit pitching gem by Paige McAllister gave Tremont a 1-0 win over Brimfield in the championship game of the Tremont Class 2A Regional. McAllister struck out 11 and walked none.

Fisher wins regional: Shelbee Owens had four hits and two RBIs in Fisher's 11-4 win over Gardner in the Class 1A Dwight Regional title game.
