Jerry Shi scored three goals and had an assist to spearhead Normal Community High School's 5-0 boys soccer victory over Champaign Centennial on Tuesday at Normal.

Guerschom Avida and Drew Doellman also scored for NCHS, which improved to 3-3-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the Big 12 Conference.

Other Ironmen assists were credited to Trey Bixby, Alex Herrera and Domenic Manzo. Goalkeepers Spencer Fulton, Elijah Maze and David Perdomo combined for five saves.

U High cruises: Sparked by three goals from Wyatt Berg, University High blanked Decatur MacArthur, 10-0, at Normal. The Pioneers (6-1) led 8-0 at halftime.

Levi Dale added two goals for U High as Camden Brown, Sam Moore, Michael Smith, Thomas Inoue and Mason McClure had one each. Thomas Feely was credited with two assists. Moore and Maison DePauw both had one.

BHS blanks Peoria: Merdy Ilonga recorded two goals and two assists in Bloomington's 7-0 Big 12 triumph over Peoria at BHS.

Felipe Ortega and Jose Alvarado also scored twice and Ali Al-Shabah once for the Purple Raiders (3-4-1, 1-1-1). Zane Thomas and Alvarado had assists. Goalkeepers Cameron Anderson and Jose Cantu had one save each. 

West ties: Caden Frank scored the lone Normal West goal off a Zach Poehlman assist in a 1-1 Big 12 tie with Peoria Richwoods at Normal. Owen Senn had five saves for the Wildcats (3-3-2, 0-0-2).

Cornerstone falls: St. Thomas More scored two goals in the first half and made it stand up for a 2-0 victory over Cornerstone Christian at Champaign. Cornerstone (5-2-1) was outshot, 7-5.


GCMS stays No. 1: GCMS remained No. 1 in Class 2A in this week's Associated Press rankings. Eureka, which lost to GCMS, dropped four spots to No. 6 in Class 3A. The only other area team ranked was Fieldcrest, which is No. 8 in Class 2A.


U High handles MacArthur: Maycie Welborn had three kills and Tori Coleman three aces in University High's 25-8, 25-6 win over Decatur MacArthur. The Pioneers improved to 10-1 and 3-0 in Central State Eight Conference play.

PND stops Saints: Kate Moorman-Wolfe had 16 kills, Abby Cox 11 digs and Steph Hebel eight kills in Central Catholic's 22-25, 25-23, 25-19 loss to Peoria Notre Dame at Bloomington.

Fieldcrest goes to 7-0: Fieldcrest improved to 7-0 in its Heart of Illinois Conference opener with a 21-25, 25-22, 25-17 win over LeRoy.

Alyx Carls, Ashlyn May and Gracie Schultz had nine kills each for the Knights, Carls and May had 14 digs apiece and Zada Baker had 15 assists. Morgan Shreves' 27 digs and Megan Claunch's 24 assists led LeRoy (4-5, 0-2).

Eureka outlasts Lexington: Joan Zimmerman contributed eight kills, Lynnde Dingledine 10 assists and Emily Streit 10 digs as Eureka (4-3, 1-0) edged Lexington, 26-24, 29-27.

Lexington (1-3, 0-1) received nine kills and 11 digs from Jayden Standish and 11 assists from Gracy Michal.

EPG trips Ridgeview: Madi Funk delivered 10 kills, Addison Benedict 22 assists and Ashlyn Mool 16 service points and 10 digs to send El Paso-Gridley (9-0, 1-0) to a 25-11, 25-13 victory over Ridgeview.

Izzy Helmig had 10 assists and Haleigh Beck four kills for the Mustangs.

Heyworth tops Fisher: Heyworth defeated Fisher, 25-20, 25-20, in Heart of Illinois action at Fisher.

Flanagan-Cornell wins: Flanagan-Cornell (8-3-1, 1-0) claimed a 25-15, 25-21 league victory over GCMS at Gibson City behind five kills from Regan Reed.

Tri-Valley wins non-league match: Regan Danko registered 11 digs and Landry Warfel 11 assists in Tri-Valley's 25-22, 25-22 win over Decatur St. Teresa at Downs. Kendall Peck and Alivia Lawson added five kills each.

Olympia falls: Kaitlin Dean had nine kills for Olympia in a 25-10, 25-22 loss to Illinois Valley Central.

Blue Ridge prevails: Gracie Shaffer had 23 assists, Jenna Mozingos 18 digs and Nadia Beadles nine kills to help Blue Ridge overcome Cumberland, 25-23, 25-14.

Mount Pulaski victorious: Taylor Trimmer's 12 digs sparked Mount Pulaski past Warrensburg-Latham, 25-21, 25-20.

Dee-Mack rallies: Colby Carlson had eight kills and Sam Hovey 12 assists as Deer Creek-Mackinaw rallied for a 22-25, 25-13, 25-15 win at Tremont.

Talia Meyer led Tremont with seven kills. Becca Olson chipped in 23 digs and Anna Porritt 10 assists.

Cornerstone defeated: Elise Masters led Cornerstone Christian with seven digs in a 25-7, 25-11 loss to Deland-Weldon at Bloomington.
