QUINCY — A lightning fast start for the Quincy Notre Dame High School girls soccer team propelled the Raiders to a 9-1 win over Central Catholic in Friday's Class 1A sectional championship game.

QND netted three goals in the opening three minutes to leave the Saints playing from behind for the remainder of the contest.

"They came out very strong and those three goals took the wind out of our team," said Central Catholic coach Reza Ghasemi.

The Raiders (25-3) raced to a 6-0 halftime lead and outshot Central 30-5 in the game.

Central's only goal came in the second half on a free kick from 35 yards out  by Sarah Brady.

While QND (25-3) advances to face Joliet Catholic in the May 25 Class 1A super-sectional at Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, Brady and three other seniors played in their final game for the Saints (14-9-1).

Ghasemi praised Brady, Olivia Campbell, Caroline O'Connor and Taryn Shanahan for their contribution to the Saints' second half surge, regional title and trip to a sectional title game.

"Our seniors had an awesome year," Ghasemi said. "They worked hard and set the leadership tone. Quincy Notre Dame was just the better team today."
