Oly Fire 2nd at B nationals: The Oly Fire 16-under travel softball team placed second in the 44-team National Softball Association (NSA) Class ‘B’ North World Series at Michigan City, Ind.

Players are Taylor Davis, Kirsten Erlenbusch, Katie Fasse, Kenzie Goembel, Sarah Gourdier, Ali Haesele, Klair Hartzold, Hannah Smith, Taylor Spencer, Alyson Unsicker and Taylor Wilkins. Head coach is Jeff Gaither.

BNGSA In-Town Classic

10-under: Sam Leman Auto won the championship of the Bloomington-Normal Girls Softball Association 10-under division with a 10-4 victory over Sego’s Mow & Go on July 23 at Champion Fields. Team members are Taylor Wilson, Faith Slezak, Kayla Stenger, Payton Hartke, Riley Nichols, Carly McBeath, Ellie Boitnott, Taylor Slabe, Lexi Onsrud, Jeanette Memmer, Corinne Hurt, Paige Leverton and Abby Williams. Coaches are Stephen Wilson, Randy McBeath, Greg Boitnott and John Memmer.

12-under: Carpenters Local 63 captured first place of the BNGSA 12-under division with a 6-3 win over VFW Post 454. Team members are Brooke Flannelly, Ellie Walker, Jess Hieb, Caelyn Steffens, Claire Talbott, Summer Stoewer, Colby Oltman, Faith Price, Abby Feit, Arden Hayek, Abby Biddle, Payton Barr, Abriana Ruiz, Kennadi Outlaw and Mallory Cushing. Coaches are Corey Oltman, Frank Flannelly, Beth Feit, Jamie Outlaw and Jay Hieb.

15-under: Dr. Jack Spaniol M.D./OSF won the BNGSA 15-under division with a 10-8 victory over Illinois Country Music Association to conclude an 18-0 season. Team members are Megan Uhls, Abigail Welke, Megan Egenes, Caley Oltman, Angela Delgado-Connor, Haley Bowlin, Ginny Gerig, Ashlyn Millett, Kailee Spaniol, Melissa Mutters, Megan Schultz, Noelle Douglass, Dany Myers and Maddie Douglass. Coaches are Mike Egenes, Rick Mutters and Mike Millett.

19-under: Phillips and Associates won the BNGSA 19-under division, defeating Scentsy, 5-4, in the second championship game. Team members were Morgan Fry, Kelsey Young, Emily Peacock, Kerrigan Tobin, Jade Mortimer, Kaitlyn Sullivan, Logan Walling, Kaitlin Zurkammer, Savannah Hemmer, Kamryn Van Hook, Kacie Garcia, Demi Fritz, Becca Gocker and Morgan Clugston. Coach was Rich Fritz.


BNBA 15 Blue second at GMB Wood Bat World Series: The BNBA 15 Blue finished the season by reaching the AA Championship game in the GMB Wood Bat World Series, held July 20-22 in Chesterfield, Mo. Jon Walters went 6 for 7 on the final day, scoring five runs and drive in three. Ben Lawyer pitched a shutout and picked up a save in another game. The Blue fell 2-0 in the title game to the Rawlings Titans.

Players are John Harris, Logan Mote, Grant Holley and Jon Walters from Central Catholic; Zack Schwartz, Dylan Oughten, Andy Winton, Korey Page and Ben Lawyer from Normal Community West; Tommy Lebow and Ben Stanesa from Normal Community; Elijah Simpson from U High and T.J. Christiansen from Bloomington. Coaches are head coach Ray Gerard III and assistant Ray Gerard Jr.


Normal Parks swim records: The following team records were broken this summer by the Normal Parks Swimmin’ Sharks: Adam Drury in 18-under boys 50-yard freestyle (21.69); Steven Fishman in 18-under 100 IM (54.04); the 14-under boys 200 freestyle relay of Mike Weisenfelder, Andrew Loy, Landon Harr and Teague Williamson (1:39.16); the 18-under girls 200 freestyle relay of Brianna Hines, Kira Webster, Jennifer Toca and Marissa Thomas (1:41.71); the 18-under boys 200 medley relay of Fishman, Chad Rosenbaum, Ed Madison and Drury (1:39.15) and the same four in the 200 freestyle relay (1:30.29).

The team also raised $9,133.60 for St. Jude in honor of team member Tatum Shanahan, who was successfully treated for cancer at the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate in Peoria.
