DOWNS -- The No. 12 seed LeRoy High School softball team rallied from a 6-3 deficit to post a 12-7 win over No. 7 El Paso-Gridley in opening round play of the Heart of Illinois Conference Tournament at Downs.
LeRoy (10-13) scored three runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Stephanie Hintz was 4 for 5 with two doubles and an RBI to lead the Panthers 15-hit attack. Mary Kline laced a pair of two-run singles while Shannon Steffen had three hits, scored three runs and drove in a run.
Ashley Walker (5-4) gave up five hits but had to overcome eight walks and four LeRoy errors to get the win.
The Panthers meet No. 2 seed Tri-Valley on Thursday.
Moli Copple had two hits and two RBI for El Paso-Gridley (11-16).
Dee-Mack blanks Fisher: Amber Schmidgall (13-9) held No. 11 Fisher to four hits, striking out three without a walk, as No. 6 Deer Creek-Mackinaw posted a 3-0 win over the Bunnies in the day’s other HOIC tourney game.
Ashley McKnight, Paige Hasty and Emily Cornwell each drove in a run for Dee-Mack (13-9), which faces No. 3 seed GCMS on Thursday.
Fisher (8-18) got two hits each from Chelsea Williamson and Amanda Cain.
