Senior Tycie Justice pitched a one-hitter, striking out 13 and walking three, and the top-seeded Bloomington High School softball team banged out 11 hits to beat No. 4 Springfield Lanphier, 8-0, in opening-round action of the Class 3A Bloomington Regional on Tuesday.
“(Springfield Lanphier) couldn’t touch her speed,” said BHS coach Amber McGee of her ace. “She was blowing it past them — the only hit she gave up was on a changeup.”
Justice, who evened her record at 7-7, also helped at the plate with two hits, including a double and an RBI. Jayme Johnson drove in four runs with a triple and double while Mary Lawrence added two hits and an RBI. Canella Ontiveros contributed with two hits and a pair of stolen bases while Lindsey Henderson had two hits.
The Raiders plated four runs in each of the third and fifth innings.
Bloomington (19-15) advances to Saturday’s regional championship against the University High-Lincoln winner. Lanphier bowed out 9-19.
