FAIRBURY -- Dani Williams’ three-run home run in the first inning set the tone for the Olympia High School softball team as the top-seeded Spartans hammered out 14 hits in an 11-5 win over No. 4 Central Catholic on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Class 2A Prairie Central Regional at Fairbury.
Olympia (28-3) added four runs in the second inning to open a 7-2 margin before the Saints countered with three in the fourth to cut the Spartan lead to 8-5. Olympia fired back with two in the bottom of the frame before tacking on a single run in the fifth to put the Saints away.
Claire Dubree (13-2) picked up the win in relief of Williams, who gave up four runs on six hits over three innings. Dubree shut down the Saints the rest of the way, yielding just two hits and one run, and helped her cause at the plate with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored.
Olympia will face the winner of today’s Fieldcrest-Prairie Central contest for the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Caroline Holt and Claire Callis each had two hits and an RBI for CCHS. Megan O’Donnell (10-8) took the loss.
