Kendall Gher (10-1) tossed a five-hitter, striking out 13, and drove in the go-ahead run in the fifth inning to lead No. 1 Tri-Valley to a 5-3 in over No. 4 Heyworth in the semifinals of the Class 1A LeRoy Regional. The Vikings (27-5) turned three Heyworth errors into four unearned runs.
Tri-Valley will meet the winner of today’s GCMS-Blue Ridge game for the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Elise Reinthaler had three hits, including a home run and double, and drove in two runs for Heyworth (10-14). Sarah Moritz (4-7) took the loss for the Hornets.
Dee-Mack advances: Amber Schmidgall pitched a five-hitter and Kayla Schamberger had an RBI single in the fourth inning as fourth-seeded Deer Creek-Mackinaw knocked off top-seeded Illini Bluffs, 1-0, in the semifinals of the Class 2A Princeville Regional.
Schmidgall (15-10) struck out two and walked one. Paige Hasty had two hits for the Chiefs (also 15-10), who play for the title at 11 a.m. Saturday against the winner of today’s Princeville-Tremont game.
Eureka bows out: No. 5 Eureka (12-19) managed just one hit against top-seeded and undefeated Farmington in a 5-0 loss in the semifinals of the Class 2A Eureka Regional. Katie Stapleton struck out 14 while walking only one for Farmington (28-0).
Fisher eliminated: No. 4 Fisher saw its season come to an end with a 6-2 loss to No. 1 seed and No. 1 state-ranked Danville Schlarman (33-2) in a Class 1A Fisher Regional semifinal contest. Chelsea Williamson had two hits and a run for the Bunnies (9-20).
Hartem pulls upset: Haylie Langley singled home Allisa Hoerbert with the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as No. 4 Hartsburg-Emden rallied to topple top-seed Astoria, 4-3, in the semifinals of the Class 1A Astoria Regional. The Stags trailed 3-1 before scoring three times in the fifth. Hartsburg-Emden (10-18) will play for the regional championship at 11 a.m. Saturday against the winner of today’s Havana-Lewistown contest.
Dwight rallies for win: Top-seeded Dwight (21-10) rallied from a 7-0 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, to defeat No. 5 seed Ridgeview, 8-7, in a semifinal game of the Class 1A Tri-Point Regional at Kempton. Sarah Butterfield and Tori Grzincic each had three hits for the Trojans. Kristina Taylor had two hits and four RBIs for Ridgeview.
