WINNETKA — Already the two fastest in Pantagraph area history in the 100-yard breaststroke, Justin Alderson of the Metamora co-op and Robby Pratt of Bloomington advanced from Friday's preliminaries of the 89th state swim meet with lifetime bests.
Alderson lowered his area record of 57.15 seconds set last year by clocking the day's fourth best time of 56.56. Pratt slashed his school record of 57.65 to 57.46, the No. 2 time in area history, to advance seventh. Earlier, Pratt clocked 50.78 to finish 16th in the 100 butterfly.
Alderson will also compete in Saturday's 200 individual medley final after clocking a personal best of 1:50.70, the third best time in area history, to advance fourth.
Not advancing, but posting career bests were University High's Andy Ritsema and Central Catholic's Lucas Williamson. Ritsema placed 16th in the 100 backstroke at 52.01, just missing the school record of 51.96. Only six men in area history have gone faster. Earlier, Ritsema was 23rd in the 200 individual medley in 1:56.43.
Williamson lowered his school record of 47.18 in the 100 freestyle to 47.15 to finish 17th. Only nine in area history have gone faster.
Normal Community's Ethan Lowder placed 20th in the 50 freestyle (21.44) and 22nd in the 100 freestyle (47.44). Teammate Tyson Tucci took 27th in the 200 freestyle (1:45.25) and 28th in the 500 freestyle (4:45.32). Lowder and Tucci joined Shannon Pinto and Christian Travis to finish 28th in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.44).
U High's Josh Nepomuceno was 23rd in the 100 breaststroke (59.59). Normal West's Ben Rutledge finished 27th in the 500 freestyle (4:45.02) while teammates Tyler Ahrens and Tyler Schupbach tied for 37th in the 50 freestyle (21.91) and placed 42nd in diving (162.95), respectively.
In the 200 medley relay, Metamora was 26th in 1:37.97, the No. 9 time in area history, thanks to Alderson, Keaton Porch, Dalton Brown and Noah Nelson.
