Team outlook: St. Charles North is ranked No. 1 followed by Stevenson and Glenbrook South. Defending champion and host New Trier is ranked 19th.

Area outlook (seedings based on sectional marks statewide):

200-yard medley relay: Metamora co-op (Michael Meinert, Justin Alderson, Dalton Brown, Noah Nelson) (31st, 1:38.40). Nelson is the lone senior on this relay.

200 freestyle: Tyson Tucci, NCHS (31st, 1:44.26). Of the four freshmen to qualify in this event, Tucci is the third fastest.

200 individual medley: Alderson, Metamora (12th, 1:54.87). A junior, Alderson placed seventh last year. His career best of 1:52.13 ranks third in Pantagraph area history.

Andy Ritsema, U High (27th, 1:56.13). A junior, Ritsema is making his third state trip.

50 freestyle: Ethan Lowder, NCHS (10th, 21.21). In the sectional, this junior broke Tyler Pinter's 2005 school record of 21.83 to climb to fifth in area history. Lowder finished 26th a year ago.

Tyler Ahrens, Normal West (41st, 21.75). Tyler deDianous' 2014 school record of 21.46 may be out of reach for this junior this season, but for how much longer?

Diving: Tyler Schupbach, Normal West (45th, 382.65). Only 10 sophomores statewide scored higher in the sectional than Schupbach.

100 butterfly: Robby Pratt, Bloomington (8th, 50.51). Seeded fourth among juniors, Pratt ranks sixth in area history. The school record of 49.72 was set in 2008 by state champion Justin Wolfe.

100 freestyle: Lowder, NCHS (18th, 47.01). In the sectional, Lowder broke the school record of 47.21 set by Brian Farris in 2005. Only seven men in area history have gone faster than Lowder.

Lucas Williamson, Central Catholic (22nd, 47.18). The first state qualifier in Central Catholic history, this school-record holding junior ranks 10th in area history.

500 freestyle: Tucci, NCHS (16th, 4:41.28). Only one freshman statewide qualified with a faster time than Tucci.

Ben Rutledge, Normal West (35th, 4:43.99). This junior is making his state debut.

200 freestyle relay: NCHS (Lowder, Shannon Pinto, Christian Travis, Tucci) (26th, 1:27.86). In the sectional, this senior-less unit broke the 2011 school record of 1:28.82 set by Jack Moore, Erik Pinter, Jeremy Grogg and Jake Bertram to climb to 10th in area history.  

100 backstroke: Ritsema, U High (28th, 52.46). Ritsema finished 23rd a year ago. His 2018 personal best of 52.04 ranks seventh in area history, one spot behind 2000 school record setter Kyle Jackson (51.96).

100 breaststroke: Pratt, BHS (5th, 57.65). In the sectional, Pratt broke the school record of 58.41 set by state seventh-placer Shaun Wolfe in 2010. Pratt's 57.65 ranks second in area history behind Alderson's 2018 best of 57.15. Pratt placed 35th in last year's state meet.

Alderson, Metamora (17th, 58.45). This junior finished ninth a year ago in 57.41.

Josh Nepomuceno, U High (32nd, 59.41). This senior placed 31st last year and 26th in 2017. His personal best of 59.39 ranks 10th in area history.
