WINNETKA — University High School junior Colton Stogner led area competitors with a fifth-place share in the 50-yard freestyle Saturday during the finals of the Boys State Swimming Meet at New Trier High School.
Stogner finished his 50 in 20.9 seconds as Stevenson's Topher Stensby won at 20.44. Stogner added a sixth place in the 100 freestyle, coming in at 45.77 behind St. Viator's Micha Balcerak (45.12).
Reid Byers of Bloomington placed eighth in the 100 backstroke with a time of 51.28. Spencer Walker of team champion Lyons (156.2) topped the event in 48.7.
Stogner also keyed U High to 11th in both the 200 freestyle relay (1:26.36) and 400 freestyle relay (3:10.07). Joining him in the 200 free relay were Josh Nepomuceno, Kyle Johnson and Anthony Williamson. The 400 free relay, which posted the sixth best time in Pantagraph area history, included Elijah Gray, Johnson and Williamson.
In the athletes with disabilities division, Normal Community junior Trevor Tucci duplicated his 2016 Division A sweep of four events. He clocked 2:51.64 in the 200 freestyle, 37.76 in the 50 freestyle, 1:20.82 in the 100 freestyle and 1:53.47 in the 100 breaststroke. His 100 free time broke his 2016 state record of 1:21.62.
