At Normal Community
When: Saturday: diving, 9 a.m.; swimming, 1 p.m.
Area entrants: Bloomington, University High, Normal West, Normal Community, Lincoln, Pontiac, Metamora co-op, Olympia, Tri-Valley
Team outlook: Normal Community is the defending champion while University High comes in as the Intercity and Central State Eight Conference champion. Normal West won the Big 12 Conference crown.
Individual outlook: Iowa-recruit Macy Rink of BHS is the only area swimmer with season bests under the state qualifying standards as she has gone 1:53.98 in the 200 freestyle and 52.95 in the 200 freestyle. Those marks rank seventh and 13th, respectively, in the state this season. In last year's state meet, she was fifth in the 200 free and 12th in the 100 free...U High has three state meet veterans in Lilly Culp, Poleena Kovalaske and Caroline Bazan. Culp is seeded first in the 200 IM (2:12.63) and 100 fly (58.89) while Kovalaske is favored in the 50 free (24.67). The Pioneers are seeded first in all three relays. West's Ali Pearson is the top seed in the 500 free (5:16.48) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.14). Sophie Benson of NCHS is favored in the 100 backstroke (1:02.39).
