BUFFALO GROVE — Central Catholic High School sophomore Madison Tattini saw her run at the 44th annual Girls State Tennis Tournament come to an end Friday.
Among the No. 9-16 seeds, Tattini was defeated 6-1, 6-2 by No. 3-4 seed Asuka Kawai of Palatine in a fourth-round singles match. She bounced back to defeat Marie Kapelevich of Mundelein Carmel, 6-2, 6-1 in sixth-round consolation play before Jelena Vujanic of Elk Grove eliminated Tattini, 3-6, 6-1 (10-8) in a seventh-round consolation match.
The Central Catholic Sectional champion had opened tournament play with three victories on Thursday. She finished her season with a 34-3 record.
University High senior Christina Su also was eliminated Friday. Su posted a 6-1, 7-5 fourth-round consolation win over McKenna Byrne of Timothy Christian, but was ousted with a 6-0, 6-1 loss to Eileen Carney of Joliet West in a fifth-round consolation match.
Central Catholic finished with seven points and U High six. All other Pantagraph area entrants were eliminated on Thursday.
The tournament concludes Saturday.
