CHARLESTON — El Paso-Gridley High School sophomore Julie James will not compete in Saturday’s finals of the Class 1A girls state track meet 800-meter run because of a stress fracture in her right foot.

James exited the sectionals with the top times in the 800 and 1,600. She advanced Thursday with a 2-minute, 16.67-second 800, but did not start the 1,600. She finished second in the 800 last year and fifth in the 1,600 after also placing sixth in the 3,200.

James’ school-record 800 of 2:13.94 this season is faster than any Class 1A or 2A entrants in the state prelims. One Class 3A girl managed 2:13.55.
