Area high school report 9/17/12

Stefanie Sanidas and Kaylee Lessen each had six kills Monday night and Tri-Valley High School’s volleyball team defeated Heyworth, 25-16, 25-20, in Heart of Illinois Conference action at Downs.

Cassidy Norman added 11 assists and Taylor Tedrick 11 service points for the Vikings, who improved to 14-2 and 4-0 in conference play.

Claire Reinthaler had eight kills and Rachel Brown 12 assists for Heyworth (9-9, 3-2).

EPG tops Lowpoint-Washburn: Alexis Yoder had eight service points and nine digs to lift El Paso-Gridley (11-3) to a 25-6, 25-13 nonconference victory over Lowpoint-Washburn at El Paso.

Yates leads Illini Central: Taylor Yates racked up 10 kills and added two blocks as Illini Central defeated Greenview, 25-10, 25-8 at Mason City.

Clifton tops GCMS: Clifton Central posted a 25-18, 25-13 nonconference win over GCMS at Clifton. Allyson Barnes and Taylor Boma had six digs each for GCMS (2-8).

PBL prevails: Amanda Ypya had eight kills to pace PBL to a 25-11, 25-18 win at Armstrong. Kayla Cowan added 13 assists for PBL (15-3).

Cissna Park falls: Maria Wilkening had 18 assists for the Timberwolves (6-6, 1-2) in a 25-20, 25-22 loss to Herscher at Cissna Park.

Saints fall in Champaign: Central Catholic fired 15 shots on goal compared to Judah Christian’s two, but the Tribe walked away with a 1-0 victory at Champaign.

The Saints (2-8-1) hit the post twice and finished with 25 shots overall.


Gold medalist at Clinton: Eureka’s Trevor Gold carded a 37 to earn medalist honors in the Clinton Maroons Invitational at Clinton Country Club. Gold led Eureka to second place in the 13-team event with a 169 total. Maroa-Forsyth won with a 164.

Mounce cards 35: El Paso-Gridley’s Michael Mounce fired a 1-under-par 35 to lead the Titans (157) past Lexington (181) and Fieldcrest (206) at the El Paso Golf Club.



Gerongay leads U High: Sheinnera Gerongay was medalist with a 41 to lead University High (174) past Mahomet-Seymour (194), Prairie Central (205) and Pontiac (224) in the Pontiac Quadrangular at Pontiac Elks.
