Flanagan-Cornell's volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss to defeat Blue Ridge, 21-25, 25-17, 25-23 in the championship match of the Class 1A Blue Ridge Sectional on Wednesday at Farmer City.
The Falcons (25-11-1) advanced to face Hartsburg-Emden in the Lexington Super-Sectional at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Lexington.
Kayla VanWeelden had seven kills, six blocks and 11 digs for the Falcons. Regan Reed was Flanagan's digs leader with 22. Rachel Harrison added 21. Madelyn Forney provided 20 assists and 13 digs.
Blue Ridge saw its season end at 32-7. Avery Fisher led the Knights with 26 assists and 13 digs. Hannah Brackenhoff contributed 28 digs. Jessie Wanserski had 12 kills and Polly Reynolds three blocks.
Hartsburg rallies to win: Hartsburg-Emden earned the right to face Flanagan-Cornell with a hard-fought 26-28, 25-12, 25-23 win over Kewanee-Wethersfield in the Class 1A sectional championship match at Peoria Heights.
Senior outside hitter Anna Hayes led the Stags with 31 kills. Grace Beekman added 17 along with 24 assists. Hayes also had 17 digs, as did Lexi Barry.
The Stags take a 34-4 record into Friday's match.
Mount Pulaski bows out: Mount Pulaski saw its season end with a 25-20, 26-24 loss to Jacksonville Routt in the championship match of the Class 1A Routt Sectional at Jacksonville.
Abigail Fitzpatrick and Skylar Hayes each had 11 kills for the Hilltoppers, who finished 26-10. Chloe Olson had 14 assists with Isabel Wade adding 12. Fitzpatrick and Morgan May each had 18 digs.
Routt advanced to face Decatur St. Teresa in Friday's super-sectional at Nokomis.
