FYI: Fourth a year ago, Newark is making its second Final Four trip. The Norsemen avenged their loss to Durand in last season's third-place match in the super-sectional. Newark's only losses have been to Class 2A state qualifiers Pleasant Plains and Champaign St. Thomas More. Sophomore Madi Malone, a 6-foot outside hitter, leads Newark with 474 kills. She also has 313 digs, second on the team to libero Meggie Scott's 513. Olivia Nelson has dished out 896 assists...Grayville is making its state debut. Carsyn Robinson, the only senior on the roster, leads the team in assists with 335 while Sidney Foster, the only junior, is the kill leader with 259. Kinley Milligan is one of six freshmen on the squad and has contributed 306 assists...In an earlier meeting, Hartsburg-Emden topped Decatur St. Teresa in three sets. The 2006 Class A champion, the Stags return to the finals for the first time since 2014 when they finished second. Memphis recruit Anna Hayes has a tournament-high 501 kills. Sophomore Grace Beekman has added 299 kills and 512 assists. Senior libero Lexi Barry has 378 digs...St. Teresa qualified for the Class 2A finals in 2010 and 2011, finishing fourth both years. The Bulldogs have six players with over 100 kills led by Lexie Huck (206). Huck also has a team-high 432 assists. Grace Buxton has 325 digs and Cami Lobb 420 assists.

FYI: St. Thomas More, the defending 2A state champion, is seeking its 14th straight two-set sweep. The last time the Sabers were taken to three sets was in a 17-25, 25-14, 25-16 win over Central Catholic on Oct. 9. Allie Trame and Kayla Brandon lead St. Thomas More with 312 and 241 kills, respectively. Freshman setter Caroline Kerr has a tournament-high 824 assists. Wisconsin-Platteville recruit Haley Elam has 346 digs...Pleasant Plains is making its Final Four debut after knocking off Eureka in the super-sectional. Senior McKenzie Smith leads the Cardinals with 306 kills. Chloe Burt has 437 assists with Emily Long adding 430. McKenzie Houser has 460 digs...Galena is making its state finals debut. Nashville returns for the first time in 30 years. Galena is enjoying its fourth straight 30-win season and is led by senior Morgan Wills' 337 kills. Mackenzie Muehleip has a tourney-high 111 blocks. The Pirates also have received 804 assists from Drew Wasson and 660 digs from Samantha Stoffregen. Abby Wesslemann has 521 digs for Nashville with freshman Sydney Schnitker adding 441. Delaney Varel is the Hornettes' kill leader with 217. Abby Grabowski has 360 assists.

Althoff's only in-state losses were to Naperville Central and Breese Mater Dei...Fourth two years ago in 2A, Latin is making its second state visit after knocking off Wheaton St. Francis in the super-sectional. The Romans' losses were to Lincolnshire Stevenson and Lombard Montini. Latin's Charlotte Cronister (394 digs) is a Northwestern recruit...Three-time champion Joliet Catholic is making its 11th state trip. The Angels were fifth in the East Suburban Catholic Conference. Joliet Catholic lost to Class 4A Final Four qualifiers Lisle Benet and Chicago Marist as well as to its semifinal foe Sterling. The latter score was 25-19, 19-25, 25-19 on Aug. 25. The Angels are led by 5-foot-8 leaper Emily Holbrook (261 kills, 319 digs), who will be a defensive specialist for Arizona State...Sterling, which is making its state debut, suffered its only loss against St. Charles North, 28-26, 25-19. The Golden Warriors are led by Chicago State-recruit Josi Borum, a 6-foot-2 setter-rightside hitter with 479 assists.

Clemson-recruit Camryn Hannah leads Marist with 351 kills while Loyola-bound setter Katie Mather has 939 assists...Benet, a three-time champion and two-time runner-up, is making its sixth state visit. The Redwings are led by Creighton recruit Ally Van Eekeren (705 assists), Notre Dame-bound Hattie Monson (351 digs) and Penn State commit Rachel Muisenga (175 kills)...Prairie Ridge, a two-time runner-up, returns to state for the first time since 2005. The Wolves are led by 6-3 Notre Dame recruit Samantha Lockwood (212 kills) and Eastern Michigan-bound Jayden Otto (517 assists)...Downers Grove North is making its third state trip and first since placing fourth in 1988. The Trojans are led by 6-0 Saint Louis recruit Margaret Mahlke (440 kills), the sister of former Illinois Wesleyan basketball player Rob Mahlke.
