BLOOMINGTON — Central Illinois Flying Aces forward Stephen Halliday has committed to play at NCAA Division I hockey power the University of North Dakota.
A 6-foot-3, 203-pound winger, Halliday was the first overall pick in the 2018 USHL Phase I Draft.
He is committed to North Dakota for the 2020-21 season and is a projected first-round pick for the 2020 NHL Draft. Halliday would be the first player in Flying Aces history to play for North Dakota, which won the 2016 national championship and has eight titles in all. Among the program's former players are Jonathan Toews, TJ Oshie and Travis Zajac.
Halliday, a native of Toronto, Ontario, played for the Toronto Marlboros Minor Midget AAA (GTMMHL) last season. He led the team in goals, assists and points, finishing fourth in the league in scoring with 83 points on 36 goals and 47 assists in just 59 games.
