PLYMOUTH, Mich. — The Central Illinois Flying Aces hockey team couldn't hang on to a 2-1 lead as Team USA rallied for a 4-3 victory at USA Hockey Arena as a crowd of 985 looked on Saturday.
The Aces fell to 15-15-2-0 while Team USA improved to 11-11-1-2.
Eamon Powell answered for Team USA at the 6:08 mark of the second period with help from Thomas Bordeleau's assist.
Central Illinois went back in front at the 9:35 mark of the second period when assists from Chase Foley and Lynden Breen set up a goal by Joseph Dunlap.
Team USA tied it at 2-2 with 11:37 left in the final period when Jake Sanderson scored off assists from Hunter Strand and Drew Commesso. Team USA went ahead to stay at the 13:58 mark in the third period when Matthew Beiners scored off assists from Sanderson and Luch Tuch.
Brett Berard's goal at the 17:35 mark put Team USA up, 4-2. Tuch had the assist. Breen ended the scoring for the Aces at the 19:14 mark off assists from Lapointe and Jon Panisa.
Aces goalie Ryan Snowden made 39 saves while his counterpart, Commesso, stopped 27 shots. The Aces were outshot, 50-32.
