BLOOMINGTON — The Central Illinois Flying Aces gave up three goals in the final two minutes Monday afternoon to fall 4-3 to the Madison Capitols in a United States Hockey League game at Grossinger Motors Arena.
The Aces had taken a 2-0 lead on a first period goal by Tate Singleton and a third period tally by Connor Mayer.
After Madison answered with a power play goal 2:28 into the third period, Central Illinois' Chad Hillebrand netted his sixth goal of the year to once more give the Aces a two-goal advantage.
The floodgates opened for Madison (8-21-2-2) when Lucas Herrman scored on a power play with 1:56 remaining. The visitors tied it on a goal by Josh Boyer just 31 seconds later. The game-winner came with 52 seconds remaining.
Both teams had 36 shots on goal. Mitchell Gibson took the loss in goal for the Aces (15-17-2-1).
