MUSKEGON, Mich — The Central Illinois Flying Aces received goals from Connor Mayer and Trevor Janicke to tie the game in the second period, but went on to lose for the second straight night to Muskegon, 5-2, in a United States Hockey League game at L.C. Walker Arena.

Mayer's goal, his fourth of the year, came on a power play with 7:16 remaining in the second period and the Aces trailing 2-0. Janicke would then tie the game four minutes later with another power play goal.

First-place Muskegon (30-9-2-1) scored three goals in the final frame, including an empty-netter with 1:55 remaining.

Central Illinois fell to 17-21-2-1 and was outshot 34-30 by the Lumberjacks. Both teams were penalized six times for 12 minutes.

Ryan Snowden took the loss in goal for the Aces after turning away 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

Central Illinois returns to action Friday against Tri-City at 7:07 p.m. at Grossinger Motors Arena.
