The U High girl's soccer team couldn't keep pace in the second half as the Pioneers fell to Rochester, 3-0, Monday night at Normal.
After a scoreless first half, Rochester's Sara Ryan connected on three goals while the Pioneers struggled offensively.
"We came out strong in the first half," said U High coach Jon Fritzen. "We had our opportunities but didn't capitalize on them and that can haunt you."
Rochester outshot the Pioneers 22-6. Goalkeeper Sarah Wintersteen had 12 saves for U High (3-6-2).
Urbana 1, Bloomington 0
Bloomington continued to struggle on offense as the Raiders dropped a decision to Urbana in a Big 12 Conference contest at Bloomington.
After a scoreless first half, Urbana's Kate Russell found the back of the net at the 52-minute mark for the lone goal of the game. Bloomington (3-10, 1-5 in Big 12) got four saves from goalie Nicki Bare while Urbana's Emily Peterson turned aside three Raiders' shots.
"We had 20 scoring opportunities today but just didn't capitalize," said Bloomington coach Tony Bauman. "We are playing well and the girls remain positive despite our struggles. We're pointing our efforts toward the post-season."
