Normal West, NCHS

Peoria Richwoods 4, Normal West 1

The Peoria Richwoods High School girls soccer team scored four late goals to hand Normal West a 4-1 setback Saturday at Peoria.

After a scoreless first half, West (5-1-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead eight minutes into the second half when Taryn Drazewski scored off an assist from Stephanie Horvath.

Richwoods responded with goals by Elizabeth Sinclair, Megan Morrow, Becca Smith and Rachel Waldschmidt to pull away. Richwoods (2-1-0) had an 18-11 edge in shots on goal.

"We played well up to 70 minutes on defense and offense," said West coach Reza Ghasemi. "The last 10 minutes we fell apart. It's one of those games we'd like to forget about. We want to learn from this game and move forward."

Edwardsville 4, NCHS 0

All-Stater Katya Hessel scored two goals in the first half to lead perennial power Edwardsville to the nonconference win over visiting Normal Community (2-3-3).

Nikki Kieffer and Kaylee Neutzling added goals late in the second half to complete the scoring. Edwardsville outshot NCHS 15-3. Ironmen freshman goalkeeper Jessica Rolfs had 11 saves, including a penalty kick.

"Despite the score I didn't think our defense played bad," said NCHS coach Matt Chapman. "We improved throughout the game in that area and learned some things we need to work on.

"We weren't aggressive as we needed to be on offense. We'd gain possession and then kick it right back to them."
