IWU football player named to academic team

BLOOMINGTON - Illinois Wesleyan senior defensive end Mike Stephens has been elected to the first team of the all-District V academic football team and will join representatives of seven other districts on the ESPN: The Magazine Academic All-America national ballot.

Stephens has a 3.73 grade point average as an accounting major. He ranks fourth on the team with 45 tackles and has five sacks. Stephens has also broken up six passes and blocked two kicks.

A first-team all-conference performer and IWU's defensive most valuable player in 2005, Stephens is a three-time academic all-league selection and was the school's 2005 Jack Swartz Award winner in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

IWU junior running back Marcus Dunlop was named to the second team. Dunlap, the Titans' leading rusher with an average of 68.7 yards per game, has a 3.97 grade point average as an economics and business double major.

In volleyball, IWU junior setter Jenna Passananti earned third-team honors while posting a 3.51 grade point average as a Spanish and education major.

IWU senior women's soccer player Ashley Goergen, who has a 3.54 grade point average as a psychology major, also garnered third-team honors.
