IWU places third after tourney canceled

ASBURY, Iowa - The Illinois Wesleyan men's golf team ended up in third place after the second day of the 20-team Duhawk Spring Invitational was canceled Sunday because of rain.

The Titans finished with a 302 total to place behind Central (Iowa)'s 294 and Wartburg's 299 in the tourney, which was hosted by Loras College.

All five IWU players shot sub-80 scores, led by Mark Niemann with 74 (ninth-place tie) and Mike DeRuntz with 75 (14th-place tie).

IWU's Ryan Gumbel carded a 76, Alex Warner a 77 and Michael Hasselbring a 78.
