Laura Klawitter scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Heyworth High School as the Hornets defeated Blue Ridge, 41-36, in a nonconference girls basketball game Wednesday night at Farmer City.
Heyworth (5-7) led 19-12 at the half but saw its lead shrink to 23-22 heading into the fourth quarter.
Blue Ridge (0-15) led by as many as four points. fourth quarter and went ahead by four with five minutes to play. Audie Springer's 3-pointer with under three minutes left gave the Hornets the lead for good.
"Meghan Cleinmark was the key for our defense," said Heyworth coach Donna Shurtz. "She always plays tough but never gets any credit for it. I thought our team played well and executed in the fourth quarter."
Jamie Hendricks led all scorers with 18 for Blue Ridge.
Pontiac 47, Keewanee 41
Senior Erin Halloran scored 18 points to spark Pontiac over Kewanee in the third-place game of the Ottawa Tournament.
"It was a good defensive effort by our team," Pontiac coach Gary Brunner said. "We made shots when we needed to and hit our last six free throws to seal the game."
The Indians improved to 6-5 with the help of 11 points from sophomore Ashley Timmerman.
Kewanee (6-5) was led by Rachel Stalzer's 10 points.
