LINCOLN — The Lincoln Christian College men's basketball team rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit, but fell just short in a 78-77 loss to Fontbonne (Mo.) University in a nonconference game Monday night.
Lincoln Christian (1-10) trailed 42-31 at the half and by 17 points with 12 minutes to play before rallying to take a 77-76 lead with 20 seconds left. Fontbonne regained the lead on a basket by Brian Fogerty with eight seconds left before a last-second basket by the Preachers rimmed off.
Freshman guard Matt Searby scored 30 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Lincoln Christian while Howard Wickersham added 13 points and six rebounds. Tyler Smith finished with 10 points for the Preachers.
Patrick McCoy had 22 points, including seven 3-point baskets, to lead Fontbonne while Fogerty finished with 19.
